When my grandpa died I would for years afterwards have these vivid recurring dreams featuring him. They would be normal happy memories type dreams but with a feeling of wrongness to it like I was trying to remember something but couldn't. Then it would slowly come back to me like "wait... he's not supposed to be here..." and then the realisation he's dead would hit like a truck with such a sense of terror that would always cause me to jolt awake. In some of them he'd be acting odd or stare at me slowly before the realization. Shit was fucked.
