I want to... but I mean it's obviously just all bullshit, isn't it?
>>
>>82480884
I don't have a difficult time with it at all, and there is reality to the hidden worlds. I'm very smart.
>>
>>82480884
Eternal souls exist, a benevolent omnipotent force does not
>>
>>82480884
Was trying to reason with a religious sociopath last night. I told her money is the root off all evil. But apparently she don't listen to that part of the bible. Her argument was just repeating herself
>>
>>82480884
Same, l really tried too, but l just can't help myself thinking
>wow this is really stupid and ridiculous
>>
>>82481011
Misquoted, it's the love of money that is the root of all evil, not money per se.
>>
>>82480884
I went to church regularly until I was like 22 but I dont think I ever actually believed in it and kept feeling like I was lying to everyone around me by showing up.
>>
>>82480884
It offers me solace and stability even if it offers politicians a weapon.

It's just a cope, OP...

>, it's the love of money that is the root of all evil
Why not just come out and say you got offended?
>>
well, yes. it sounds fun. it would sure as hell improve my life. i want to believe in something. but i just cannot. that's not to say i dismiss those ideas entirely. i love reading religious stuff.
>>
>>82480884
it sure seems like BS but their centuries of wisdom would be way better than whatever gooning i'm doing otherwise; i believe in so many other BS things to my detriment anyway like anxiety etc, god forbid i utilize a healthy delusion
>>
>>82480884
I don't believe in God but I tell everyone else that they have to believe in God
Somehow, I feel like religion *is* good for you, it's just that I personally don't believe in any one of them
>>
Stop asking questions on a board like this and start reading more and looking into the topic yourself. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll be changed with an open mind. Atheists just don't want you asking questions.
>>
>>82481235
>Somehow, I feel like religion *is* good for you, it's just that I personally don't believe in any one of them
Same here. Is this a bad thing to believe? Tbh it feels fucked up to admit this.
>>
>>82480884
>I want to... but I mean it's obviously just all bullshit, isn't it?
Yes. It is much different if your working class grandparents, that got brainwashed into it, brainwash you when you are little.
>>
>>82481266
It's not unique
Guys way older than us like Epicurus, a philosopher from Ancient Greece believed in the same thing

I'll do you one better
Do you believe in the soul, anon? As in, mind, body AND soul?
I do, eventhough I don't believe in the afterlife nor any gods
>>
>>82481260
>Atheists hate him!
>He will get to experience eternal perpetual orgasm after he dies
>this one wierd trick makes your death inconsequential
>>
>>82481235
>>82481266
I mean religion feels pretty natural for humans. Even if you do away with it, people just replace it with ideology/brands/fetishes etc.
>>
>>82481347
Yeah, it's second nature to us
I guess one thing about conciousness is that we actually *realize* that we're concious and the first few humans probably just wanted to make sense of the world at large, so they deify nature, conjure up gods, act on their rituals

Because in all honesty dude? The current world with folks claiming to NOT believe in God? Shit's fucked
We need to return back to God, and this is coming from an atheist!
>>
>>82480884
I used to think that as well but then realized worshipping Jews was gay
>>
>become atheist at like 10 because I look up stuff online and realize atheism makes more sense
>mom gets PISSED at me
>fast forward 20 years later
>she is now an atheist as well, admits she just used the church for community and grief support
>>
>>82481388
Was Buddhism made by a Jew?
>>
I find it hard to believe because I find it hard to believe in any definitive answers. How the fuck am I supposed to know anything? I'm just an ordinary guy.
>>
>>82481409
>How the fuck am I supposed to know anything?
Learn nigga
The universe is literally just maths and physics, do your homework and solve the equation like the rest of us
There has to be a fucking solution!
>>
>>82480884

yes

according to christianity, god is all powerful and all knowing. he is in control of everything that happens, and created the universe as he wanted. he is benevolent, rational, and cares about people. yet the way the universe works is the opposite of that.

i feel bad but it just doesnt make sense
>>
>>82481427
That's the thing, people are constantly coming up with new answers, previously thought correct ideas are disproven or come with some sort of caveat to show we never knew the full scope of it. Even with what we've learned, there's no definitive answer for everything out there.

I assumed OP was talking about Christianity becuase a lot of people are converting to it now-a-days
>>
>>82481447
And that's good, mean's we're getting close to solving it
>inb4 what
We know the wrong answers, we keep finding new answers, and then they'll either be presumed right or wrong
Just keep on solving and solving it

Would be funny if there was actually no deeper meaning at all, that Life is just *is*

>obviously just all bullshit, isn't it?
Ya it is. People believe in that crap because it helps them emotionally go through how brutal and unfair life is. Or they think it's socially beneficial brainwashing for how other people behave. It's a cope like any other some would say the original cope. Religion/spiritualaity is for dumb and weak people or grifters that don't really believe it but want to use it to convince other people to do what they want them to do.
>>
>>82480884
Stuff like that does make life more entertaining though. My dad told me a story about how a group of people were possessed and were behaving like berserkers from Nordic countries, but in my culture, there was actually a way to stop their berserk (no, it wasn't just trying to outfight those people because they could withstand multiple strong punches to the face and still keep going). I still wonder how a very specific action could stop someone from going berserk like that.
>>
>>82480884
It depends how you look at it, there are many arguments for and against. I like the argument through Pascal's wager even though I know what counterarguments there are to it. Kant already refuted the ontological argument, and many others have been debunked too. But I believe because I like it and you're never alone, there is hope.
I basically came to this on my own. Faith didn't make me this way - I chose this faith because my beliefs were already very close to it. And you can't definitively claim that God exists or doesn't exist if we step away from faith, since he's incomprehensible anyway.
I'm a Calvinist and think this is quite a productive variant of Christianity, especially if you think you're among the elect. If you want, we can talk about this more
>>
>>82481142
Why would anyone get offended at a misquote?
>>
>>82480884
Obviously is mostly make believe shit. Religion is more about the community and sense of belonging than actually believing in zombie Jesus ascending into the sky.
Its an excuse to socialize which is confusing for internet denizens to understand.
>>
>>82481585
Just checking because every time I say this in real life the ppl that tell me I'm wrong obsess over money

"There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'
"'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
"Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.
"Which of the two did what his father wanted?"
