The point isn't to convince anyone, it's to get footage of themselves "epic owning" the "pink-haired liberal FREAK" with a clever rebutal or a scathing retort, etc. Then their editor can put them together in a youtube compilation of LIBTARD DEMOCRATS (More like "demonrats xD") getting DESTROYED by FACTS and REASON! Basically the entirety of it is disingenuous and insincere, it's a marketing promotion essentially. The purpose is more so signal boosting to other people who already agree with them than it is actually convincing anyone who is on the fence. This can be most obviously seen by how unproductive the format is for any real debate or intellectual discourse. They have a huge crowd of spectators, no one has time to prepare an argument, and usually they limit each speaker to some miniscule amount of time, like 3 minutes before having to hand the microphone to the next challenger. This isn't a productive way to discuss anything, but it is a very effective way to churn through as many people as possible in hopes of getting the sick comeback moment you need for your promotional materials. A nice snappy rebuttal, preferably against an opponent who is visibly overweight/ugly/has piercings/tattoos/dyed hair which signals them as part of the "enemy team". Tl;dr: the entire purpose is getting soundbites to sell more merch
