OP: hanging is indeed the right choice, but you should measure out three or so meters of drop if you want absolute confidence. What's necessary depends on your weight but that will make sure of it. The stuff you see in the movies, with the kicked out chairs and the floors with hatches? Yeah, that's less than bare minimum height to hang from, if you want painless death.
