Why would you think that? But I don't think it necessarily is. Sure, there are those who like isekai and other types of shitty anime and behave like kids on social media, but there are also very well-written and well-directed anime that are always surprising people who have a more artistic or cinematic view on anime.
Furthermore, the market of anime appeals many people with distinct tastes. Americans usually like newer shows, europeans like old shows and frenchies are obsessed with shoujo/josei manga, or at least that's one of their niches. And the last: Linux and >>>/g/ dudes are obsessed with anime, and they are high IQ, which means that anime isn't categorically low IQ.

the only anime i really liked in the past decade is mukoshu tensei jobless reincarnation. otherwise i dont really enjoy any shows whatsoever. its good i look forward to season 3
