Why was 2000s internet so much more soulful?
>>
>>82668366
Crapitalism hadn't taken hold of everything yet. Now most every type of media you see is soulless garbage meant to extract the most money it possibly can. You are essentially just an atm for the creators.
>>
People did things just to do it. You did something because it was funny, or because you thought it was cool. Things were slower, and because of that, you were just more appreciative of the little things.
Of course, people still wanted to go "viral," but it meant something different back then.
>>
>>82668375
I really miss the days of watching movies and anime on YouTube in cut up parts.
>>
>>82668375
Youtube was invented under capitalism commiefag.
>>
>>82668391
>t. soulless npc that can only see in black and white

>>82668391
youtube was an inevitability on infrastructure built almost entirely with state resources.
>>82668375
fpbp. plus there was a lot of mystique surrounding it at the time. the media (and thus the mainstream) didn't know how to appraise internet content, so everything up until like gangnam style was intellectual charity.
now we've been numbed by the billions and the endless prosperity of the internet, just doing shit for coolness alone isn't worth it. people who would have been posting shit for free on newgrounds 20 years ago are on patreon or subscribestar. the internet is too plentiful and too spacious to exist without a robust advertising structure, so new acts are forced to get in line and follow the script.
>>
YouTube was awesome before Google bought it. I've been on the site for 20 years at this point and it was just so much more fun when it was still the YOU in YouTube and not late night clips and mr beast copycats. Does anyone else remember back in like 2005/6 when porn was super easy to find on the site?
>>
>>82668366
>urban ninja
That was the cringest shit ever
>>
>>82668471
>before Google bought it
I swear there's a misconception or mandela effect about this timing. They didn't buy it in like 2011, they bought it in 2006. YT existed for like 6 months before google bought it lol.
>>
I like the modern internet, however I just enjoy the many new things that came along with it like random pop-ups that interfere with what you were reading such as:

>pls pretty pls enable your cookies for our site!
>allow notifications or else I'll meltdown
>Sign into your Google Account to use this site
>Our mailing list is super cool, so sign up for it!

Then there's the fact that everything now is monetized. It's not authentic, it's just a cash grab and whoever is stupid enough to get their 15 minutes of fame.
>>
>>82668514
>I just don't enjoy
That is what I meant to say.
>>
>>82668514
i want like a little internet microcommunity that does shit like this. neocities was a great idea with so-so execution.
>>
>>82668494
I think people confuse ceo's with that. Original ceo stayed till 2010 or something, it got a bit worse, then susan came in 2014 and fucked it up harder. Now its someone else.

I'm very well aware that YouTube bought the site in late 2006. Made my account in early 2006 and I still stand behind the fact that the site was best in late 2005 to late 2006 before it was bought. It was truly the wild west for a solid year.

it wasnt. you're just a zoomer.

>>82668366
I'm still salty they got rid of the star rating system.
>>
>>82668569
Same, and now likes are basically useless
>>
>>82668366
Because it was still partly grassroots and community driven. Once huge profits came into the picture and you could monetize everything that motive disappeared.
>>
>>82668577
Blame that faggot jacksepticeye for that, he supported it.
>>
>>82668589
Really, damn I can kinda see that. In the end it only benefits big companies or well mostly them. Very gay very stupid
>>
>>82668577
wonder what it would have taken for blamming/sageing/direct user influence on content/curation to take hold on bigger platforms.
>>
>>82668366
IQ barrier
>>
>>82668589
Really? Can't fathom why he supported it, but I also can't see how that contributed much to it.
>>
>>82668366
There was no algorithm and you couldn't make a living being an attention whore.

>Youtube was invented
Yeah, no one thought of hosting videos before the geniuses at Youtube "invented" it.

The internet wasn't worth a fucking dime to anyone prior to 2010. Content got made because people liked making things and they wanted to share it. There's like 5000 flash games on Newgrounds/Kongregate and none of them cost a penny.

Now, India and Russia produce 10 kids videos a day where CG creatures sing public domain songs so they can get a fraction of a cent per infant that clicks on it in his crib.

My youtube account is from January 2006 and I had been using the site for months before that. I don't even consider any youtube to be old internet though. It's the first modern site.
>>
>>82670236
I kinda agree. YouTube feels like that bridge between old and new internet.

There was this short haired woman who had a channel on Brazilian wax tutorials where she'd wax her pussy. I still have no idea how Brazilian waxes work, but boy did I give her a lot of views.

I've been on YouTube since 2006 - the site was fine until late 2008. I think that was when they did YouTube LIVE and started banning accounts for music copyright. Some of the best early accounts (pre-Smosh, pre-nigahiga) all disappeared into the void because of their censorship.
>>
>>82668366
I feel like the internet was more chill back then. Now everyone is always angry all of the time. Especially on 4chan. We used to have fun here. When a girl would post we'd spam tits or gtfo. Now when a girl posts retards just spam "tranny tranny tranny" even if she's 100% cis and guarantee she'll never post tits. It's a travesty.
>>
>>82670318
Yep, shit sucks. When I'm feeling nostalgic I go on my original favorites playlist and using the Wayback Machine try and find some old amvs and such from 2005-2008 that are LONG deleted. On a rare occasion the videos even work.
>>
>>82670348
I live for the Wayback Machine. It's the only true time machine we have, because we can go back and the past is still there, captured in time.
>>
>>82668366
are the boomers really oldposting again

the internet was shit back then. i would say the 2010s internet was way better but it all went to hell after 2019
