random picturewhy do people try to demoralize you so hard if you care about your privacy at all?i was talking to someone about a nvidia thing and mentioned that i dont think the control panel is the same on windows because im on linux and they started shit talking linuxall fine and dandy, linux has its issues, i gave them that. said i really only moved to it to get away from windows because i dont like their self-reenabling telemetry and dont like the shit w11 is doingthen say that i use a firefox fork because i dont like google and barely even firefox, and i use a vpn, and my phone has its location sensors permanently disabled and stuff like that. so i mostly got away from windows for that reason, and that im not going to try to push it on to thembut they just got weirdly... defensive(?) about it? i cant understand why, but they started talking about how im wasting my time because they can triangulate based on cell towers. just this smug "oh, you use a vpn? heh... but you own a phone, heh..." so i said yeah obviously, im not going to convince my fucking grandma to get on session and im the first person she'd call if something happened so i cant win them all but why should i fully give up because i dont want my grandma to have a heart attack and die? no, i cant hide my location from fucking t-mobile, but i CAN hide everything about me from google and microsoft and shit like that. t-mobile cant get my browsing habits and interests just off of the location of my house in the woodsits just weird. no civilian gains anything from supporting corpo tracking or demoralizing people who try to get away from it, but i feel like every time ive ever said anything about it the response is nothing but "yeah but you should give up because its pointless and erm... dont you have a phone? In general the defeatist attitude where a person assumes not only they are hopeless but everyone else is hopeless and they actively attack them, trying to enforce that delusional hopelessness they've convinced themselves of. All the while they aren't even an expert in the topic and for some reason attempt to speak with authority about it, sometimes even to genuine experts. It's a level of brainwashing I've never seen before and I seriously have no idea how it was implemented but it scares the shit out of me.
