Good job anon, what did you practice?

I want to get back into it, this time around I will conquer the F chord!

I just played the parts of the songs I'm working on without much thought. The songs I'm learning are Girl from Ipanema, Fragile (by Laufey) and Yume Utsutsu. Sometimes I work on the G, Em, D and C chords for Let Down (I transposed it). Are those the right chord names...? Once in a while I play Blackbird again. I still make make many mistakes on it. I never perfected it before I got tired of playing it so much.

It's good to work on songs. For some reason I got fixated on chords and chord changes. I think I have a perfectionist's mindset and I'm convinced if I work on chords enough I'll be able to "just play anything," but in the end, playing guitar is about the music.

What made you want to pick up guitar?

I don't think it is bad to be obsessed with chords, but like you said, playing guitar (or any instrument really) is about the music, and learning chords within the context of a song you like is better than learning chords by themselves, in my opinion. This doesn't mean that studying chords and theory isn't important, but learning the chords and theory for particular songs is a lot more fun.
I started playing the guitar because I just felt like learning something new and doing something with my life! I was pretty bored for a while and decided to go with learning guitar. Not sure why I picked guitar in particular.

i was like this as a kid (like 12) and i got absolutely nowhere. it wasn't until i tried to learn songs, watched covers, etc. that the chord changes became easier and i had better intuition over the fretboard. just play bro.

You're gonna into bossa nova now? pretty cool. I love Lamp, that's a good pick! How are you finding it? Is it easy? I'm really struggling with the song I chose (the one by pasteboard) the chords are quite difficult to switch cleanly in between, I think I might put it on the backburner. On the flipside I found another song (Youkoso Hitori Bocchi) that has same chords but in an easier order! (E > Fmaj7 > C)

Yume Utsutsu is alright, I guess. The chords aren't difficult, but the fingering pattern is hard to get down perfectly. I always have trouble with chord changes, no matter what song it is. I will just be patient with it, since I don't think I can force myself to improve any faster.
Your new song is from Welcome to the NHK! I watched it quite a long time ago. Maybe once you learn the chords to this song, you can play the Pasteboard song more easily. How confident do you feel about switching chords in general?

>Maybe once you learn the chords to this song, you can play the Pasteboard song more easily.
Hopefully!
>How confident do you feel about switching chords in general?
Not very. I can do well when it's slow and it's a simple down x 4 strumming pattern but when I speed up I get really sloppy with it. When I'm practicing chord switches it feels like I have to think a lot while I'm switching, like it takes a lot of mental bandwidth. Like I make a chord, then I have to think about what I'm gonna input with my fingers and THEN I do it. I probably have to slow down a ton and do the little by little bpm thing, I guess I just have to be patient.

My process so far is that I play a chord (like a E) and then to learn the switch first I don't do the full chord, for example E to G I learned the transition moving two fingers first, then with a permutation of that, then with all 3 fingers.

Yes, that must be why people say to practice really slowly. It is frustrating but there is no way around it! I also get really sloppy when playing chords quickly.
>When I'm practicing chord switches it feels like I have to think a lot while I'm switching, like it takes a lot of mental bandwidth.
Think about it this way: you are literally rewiring your brain when you are practicing or learning something new, so of course it takes a lot of effort!
>I probably have to slow down a ton and do the little by little bpm thing, I guess I just have to be patient.
Yes, me too. I find that after playing the same thing over and over again over the course of a few days, my brain eventually "gets it" and then I can play a section a lot faster and automatically. It takes time and a lot of good night's rests.

Oh, that is an interesting idea! I've just been practicing chord switches directly, which feels super clumsy. I think it makes more sense in my brain to have all of my fingers move together rather than have separate muscle memory for each finger, though. Has it been working for you?

Good to know it's just how it is and I'm not just retarded!
>Has it been working for you?
Yeah I think it has been working! I relate it to learning fighting game combos, I remember when first starting I had trouble stringing combos together especially with DPs in them which were hard for me, so I would practice the one combo in sections. Not precisely the same situation in guitar, but I think it's helpful...

>Good to know it's just how it is and I'm not just retarded!
It's OK, anon. Sometimes I get frustrated and think I am retarded for not being able to play a part after trying it ten times. However, it's good to sit back and remember that our brains aren't computers that you can just install programs into. They are living tissue that require time to rewire themselves. Plus, I've only been learning the song for three days, give me a break, brain...

I think taking things in small sections is a good learning strategy in general! Everything you do is the sum of its parts, and the better you are at every little part, the better the whole will be! I could not get into fighting games, though...

Me neither desu, I tried to get into Melty Blood. It's really good, but you kinda need friends of a similar skill level in order to start out.
>>
>>82680331
I wanted to try Melty Blood with some friends in the past, but I got shy and gave up on playing...
>>
>>82680339
who'd you play? I played mostly H-Len and a little bit of Miyako before I gave up
>>
>>82680493
I wish I could say I played a character, but I learned about how every character has the moon mode thingies and got overwhelmed and quit on the spot.
>>
>>82680541
Kek, well which character would you have theoretically played
>>
>>82680550
Probably that... what was her name? I can't remember. But she was tall and had a beautiful white dress. I think she was the alternative form of one of the main characters.
