If you can find a regular car with comfortable back seats you'll be better off with avoiding the law. Police won't really second-guess a car sitting overnight, but with a van, it's pretty obvious what you're doing. If you live somewhere with lots of open woods like Montana or Idaho you can get away with just driving off down a trail and passing out. I wouldn't recommend living in a car in a hotter state.
