>first time home owner>been having contractors visit to provide estimates for various projects>contractor comes today to look at roof>doesn't inspect any part of roof physically>instead just flies drone up and takes a couple photos>quotes me $10k for a $3k job>charges me $100 for the estimate>I tell him I never agreed to that $100 fee and received no notice of it>he starts yelling at me that I have to pay it>pay it because fuck it I'll just dispute it later>he gets out his phone for me to tap my credit card>look at his phone screen>text is all HebrewCan't make this shit up. I thought he was Eastern European or Arab or something, but nope!
>>82681206haha, replied thinking hey maybe you got banned on /pol/ like me, for me it was Greta posting
>>82681370Nah but this didn't really seem to fit in/pol/. Plus I'm not necessarily anti-Semitic. I hate Israelis though. Super fucking conniving and whiny people. My American Jew friends agree.
>>82681449right I forgot it's 2025
>>82681206Did you even try asking >>>/diy/ first before calling them? I don't own a house, but I know what I would do first before buying a new house, or renovating a fixer-upper is hire an independent inspector, meaning not connected to a company that actually does the repairs. Someone like CyFy.
>>82681509Yes, I had an inspector come. That's literally the reason I know of my roof issues and had a contractor come to provide an estimate. Instead, they acted like they were also providing an inspection despite me never agreeing to that. It's very common, by the way, for contractors to come, briefly look over the issue you believe you have, and then provide an estimate, all for free. This dude is just a greedy dick.
>>82681531Yes, but you also didn't read the fine print, or ask how much it will cost before he does anything.
>>82681538It's incumbent upon the business to notify me the cost they intend to charge me, especially in an industry where these estimates are almost always provided for free. Also, there is no fine print. I called up the business and repeatedly asked them to point out where I was put on notice of this fee. They told me I would have been informed when I called to set up the "inspection." Except I never received such information when I scheduled it. Wanna know how I know for sure? Because I never would have scheduled it had they mentioned it. But it's awfully convenient of them to say them notified me in a manner that has no paper trail.
>>82681561yes you got cheated, but you also could have been more vigilant
>>82681582Well I reported them to my state's consumer protection department and the Better Business Bureau, and I'm going to dispute the charges with my credit card company once it goes through.
