I just practiced every song I'm learning, as usual.

I got a bit better at the fingerstyle intro for Good Riddance. I realized that the strings I have to hold down are just parts of the chords that are played later, and those are chords I know! That helped me a lot in figuring out the notes.

I am still slowly building up the muscle memory for the bossa nova chords. Being patient with myself instead of feeling sad about not getting it immediately made me feel a lot less stressed and a lot more happy to play! I think any frustrated guitar player just has to be patient with themselves in order to improve.

thats most songs, you're unlocking the fretboard good job! another tip to remind yourself is that the guitarist writing the song isn't going to make something intentionally hard so the notes are usually within easy reach.

Does anyone have have advice for barre chords?

I suppose songs have to be playable at the end of the day! Though, I can see somebody making an extremely hard song just for fun.

i actually just started learning as well. i remember seeing you post day 14 I think just by coincidence the day i decided to pick up my guitar after 2 years of it gathering dust.

and actually i got barre chords down pretty quick for the most part. what matters a lot is where you place your thumb. your wrist my strain a bit when you're just getting used to doing them but that's normal, mine got used to it after a while. what helps to is to use the side of your finger since it's more hard and boney, but if you just do it over and over again with your finger facing flat down then you'll eventually build up the strength and callouses and it'll get easier.

didn't read most of your other threads, what type of songs did you first begin to practice? I've been going through tons of beatles songs personally. i recommend looking into practicing some of them if you haven't!

I have to fight the urge to info dump.
Barre chords are about placing your finger correctly, if your guitar is setup properly the amount of pressure needed is no more than you'd use to pick up an empty glass

has the idea right you want to use the side of your finger and make sure your thumb is in the middle of the neck. you should be doing that italian hand gesture thing essentially.

Okay! I learned all the chords to Fragile. Time to get better at switching between them.

>what helps to is to use the side of your finger since it's more hard and boney,
I actually tried this, but it doesn't feel "right"... you don't even have to hold down all the strings when playing a barre chord though, do you?
>what type of songs did you first begin to practice?
The first song I learned was Blackbird! Then I started working on Let Down (Radiohead) with my own simplified chords, then I started working on Good Riddance (Green Day), then I started working on Girl from Ipanema, Fragile and Yume Utsutsu. I've been getting a lot of my songs from the Marin Music Center channel. I think I want to learn more bossa nova! I love the way it sounds. I want to try learning One Note Samba next. It seems ridiculously difficult, which means it's going to be a fun challenge! I also want to try learning Flipper and Squall (both by Pasteboard), since they sound relatively simple, relatively similar, and it would be a good introduction to the key of D.

You can infodump if you'd like, anon!

That's what I've heard, but I haven't been able to get away with using only a little force. I still use a lot of strength to bar the strings. Maybe the technique will come with time? Or maybe I will just get so strong that it won't feel so tough anymore.

niceu anon. i think a good way to not get bored by playing is practicing different things everyday like you're doing. keep at it!
>any frustrated guitar player just has to be patient
yup, i need to work on that myself... if i can't learn something in the span of an hour or so i get angry at myself.

>Learned how to play guitar sections for 2 different albums
>Never could meet the right people to form the band I wanted
>Ultra poorfag, stuck in tiny shit apartment, can't afford equipment to actually record anything, can't make any noise higher than playing unplugged

keking at my life
