>be me, bored at a housewarming party
>mostly couples, scrolling on my phone in the kitchen
>guy shows up, seems cool, we get talking
>he's into the same niche stuff: modding old Game Boys, that obscure synthwave artist, we're both rewatching The Wire
>conversation flows easy, no awkward pauses. Actually laughing.
>exchange discords, he hits me up a few days later to play Deep Rock Galactic
>we have a blast, he's a good teammate
>he suggests grabbing boba next weekend
>casually drop "Yeah, for sure, my boyfriend loves that place too, I'll see if he's free"
>radio silence for a day
>then: "hey sorry, got swamped with work, maybe another time"
>seen him online in Discord every day since, playing DRG with other people
What's the deal? I thought we had a legit friend vibe going. Is the unspoken rule really that any guy who's nice to you is just waiting in queue? I Just wanted a new gaming buddy.

i think it's moreso that he's third wheeling and it would be awkward. but maybe he was just waiting in queue

This is one of my favorite bait threads

why would a man want to be friends with women? either we bang or gtfo
also maybe you just sucked at DRG

damn i had you filtered don't go changing your formula on me

>What's the deal?
The deal is that you are a time waster and lead him on to think you might be interested in more than friendship I'll explain,
Parties are usually a place when people meet new partners

>mostly couples, scrolling on my phone in the kitchen
Why would you go to a mostly couples party without your bf? It makes it look like you are single, also not bringing up your bf while talking to other guys makes it look like you're single,
If you would've made your intentions clear instead or letting him build expectations.
There's a chance that if you were clear that you wanted just a gaming buddy he would've been a gaming buddy but instead you let him look forward to something and then disappointed him.
You also had a chance to bring up the boyfriend earlier while texting.

People don't like time wasters

>lead him on
How is having a normal human conversation "leading on"? We talked about soldering capacitors and Stringer Bell. Where was the secret code for "I want to bear your children" in that?
>Why would you go to a mostly couples party without your bf?
He was out of town for work. Are you my fucking social secretary? Do I need to provide a signed permission slip and his itinerary to anyone I make small talk with?
>not bringing up your bf... makes it look like you're single
So the first thing I'm supposed to do when a potential friend mentions a video game is to interject with "BY THE WAY I AM SEXUALLY UNAVAILABLE"? How fucking autistic are you? It's not the opening line of every interaction. It comes up organically, like when making future plans.
>let him build expectations
His expectations are his own problem. I was just being a person. If a guy being nice and sharing interests automatically means he's in the "fuck zone," then that's a him problem, not a "me being a time waster" problem.
>People don't like time wasters
I wasn't wasting his time, I was trying to be his friend. He's the one who wasted *my* time by pretending to want a friendship he had zero actual interest in. I just lost a potential gaming buddy. He lost nothing but the effort of a few texts.
The mental gymnastics to blame me for his hurt fee-fees are Olympic-level.

Everything you can provide as a friend a guy can do 10 times better. The one thing a guy cannot provide is a hole. Retard

I wouldn't mind being friends with a food just on a totally platonic level, but if she's not single then I feel weird because you just don't want to get close to girls in relationships. You don't know if her boyfriend is a jealous psycho, and you otherwise just want to respect his boundaries. If I had a gf who clicked with some guy over a bunch of mutual interests, and she comes home talking about making all these plans with him, I'd be concerned too.
