Pain is a necessary evil that lets our bodies know when something is wrong - but why is it even possible to feel extreme pain? This seems like an extremely retarded design flaw. If the idea is that getting stabbed is supposed to make you try to escape the situation, there's no point when the pain is so great you can't do anything except lay down. The fact that there's no upper limit to pain is absurd. Take getting hit in the testicles for example, what the fuck is the point of that being as painful as it is? It's not even an organ that is necessary for an individual's survival.

The idea works but it has this as an oversight. Kind of amusing when you learn that evolution doesn't care about the pain you feel.
>>
>>82711508
What's amusing about that?
>>
>>82711508
It's not particularly amusing; it pisses me off greatly. It shouldn't be possible to feel the amount of pain we do when certain conditions occur. Like what the fuck is a caveman supposed to do when he has a tooth infection? (If you're lucky enough to have never experienced dental pain, I truly hope it stays that way)

1. Realize evolution is descriptive, not prescriptive. Pain evolved because it generally entices us away from endangering and hurting ourselves. when something drastic happens like an animal bites off your hand, your body stops pain for a time so you can run away. On average, you won't feel extreme pain, so there was little advantage in evolving a 'cap' on pain. I mean, as long as you don't kill yourself because of it, but you've got instincts to stop you from that.
2. Survival is less important than reproduction. In fact, thousands of animals lay down their life to reproduce- fig wasps that die in the fig, eels that have their digestive system transformed into egg container, other fish too, like salmon, die after reproducing once.

Man, I hate being a biological creature. Fuck the demiurge.

It's also useful in empathy, that when you see someone seething in pain you will know not to avoid doing that and having done that to yourself, knowing the consequence of an action so you avoid it.

As for dental pains and the like it is just a side effect, or an unintended effect.

>but why is it even possible to feel extreme pain?
that's just what happened
the more complex stuff you can process, the more disturbing something as pain is
consider it your own cells being colonizers of your body as a whole and you having to process their demands

ad hoc "god did so" or "evolution did so" will explain nothing. this is an emergent thing, unfortunately only known authors to go about this are deleuze and co.

oh but why do YOU specifically have to experience pain of your body and the process is not offloaded to some unconscious node? consider that bodies find it great for survival and reproduction to entrap souls during the body gestation. see: orch-or

>I mean, as long as you don't kill yourself because of it, but you've got instincts to stop you from that.
suicides do get fueled by instincts. especially noticeable when the person is under influence of substances disabling conscious inhibitions. freud was onto something when he conceded and adapted the death instinct concept

>retarded design flaw.
I guess but in evolution whether your in pain or not doesn't matter, you just gotta pass your genes
But I get your point it'd be great to just click a button and not feel any pain if let's say you have a toothache but can't get it taken care of now or turn off the stress when taking a test but in the grand scheme of things your comfort doesn't matter
Check out the life cycle of a fig wasp, these guys have it fucked up but as long as they pass their genes they keep existing

it's called drugs, man
primitive societies solved it already but the governments are making us work extra hard for our cures...

You remind me exactly of my friend that sits around all day taking dabs and trying to get "deep" by saying shit like this
>>
>>82711673
>called drugs, man
it not as simple as a button!!
and it does not just remove the bad feelings it also changes how you feel completely and there's too many drawbacks to most of them
>>
>>82711490
>The fact that there's no upper limit to pain is absurd
Yeah, but the world is absurd
>>
>>82711706
>and there's too many drawbacks to most of them
the only real drawback is it's difficult to establish a reliable and uninterrupted supply for yourself for life, especially if you don't overdose
>>
>>82711490
To let you know that something is extremely wrong, duh

How about being a junkie loser for one

>punch self in balls
>body releases endogenous opiates

it's cheaper than heroin.

But if the pain cripples you, it makes it more likely that you will die and thus.. isn't it a bit weird? It's a trait that should have died out.
