Do anons really believe in free will? that you're really in control of your lives? Are zoo animals in cages acting upon their free will? If you had an immobilizing headache that forced you to call in sick at work, would you still be acting upon your free will? Personally, I think that shit is retarded. I believe all of our lives have been pre-determined by birth and we're slaves to chemicals in our brain governing our every move.

What do you think, Anon?

You're in a 'sandbox' of sorts. You have 'free will' within the confines/parameters of barriers beyond your immediate control. You can break free, but you must first reject nearly everything you've been taught.

Don't hurt my feelings like that, anon

Their red herring lack of care about free will that they think will subconsciously bring them back to a state where they feel truly free and in control?
You know what it is.

>I believe all of our lives have been pre-determined by birth and we're slaves to chemicals in our brain governing our every move.
We are originators of actions and therefore capable of being rational agents rather than passive products consumed by our nature
When you stop and think to yourself
>What's the right thing to do?
instead of
>What do I feel like doing?
you stop being governed by your chemical impulses and start being guided by your moral principles instead, and that's what true freedom really is

i agree with >>82826570. we're inclined towards our nature, yes, but free will is the ability to break free from our nature. to stop and think before doing something, then you start exercising your free will. granted, you could argue maybe you still aren't free because you are bound by what you want - but imo, free will is just freedom from an individual's nature. the ability to break free from that nature and live life differently from the pattern. you can always choose, and those choices are a product of your free will.

I believe that the discovery that people can be modeled to near 100% accuracy given sufficient data and processing power has laid the idea of free will to rest. Humans are a system and at the consciousness level that system has only flexible outcomes. There is adaptability in responses but no true freedom, we've solved humans as individuals. True complexity emerges in groups of humans as with all turbulent systems but even then reliable enough models can now be made.
