The "lone white male rapist" is a Hollywood myth. Rapists 1. Aren't loners. They gang rape people. That requires a team. 2. Aren't incels. Most of them are married or have baby mamas from previous relationships. 3. Aren't white. 4. Have lots of confidence and self-esteem. Have an alpha male "I get what I want" personality. Which is why they go outside and rape people. 5. Don't have autism and are very social and personable. 6. Aren't strangers, the victim is almost always friends with them.

Why won't this stereotype die?

Why the stereotype refuses to die.

1. It is narratively convenient.
Film and TV need a clear visual shorthand for danger. A sketchy-looking stranger in the dark is easy to identify. A charming boyfriend, a popular coworker, or a respected friend is complicated and uncomfortable to portray. Simple villains sell better.

2. It protects people's sense of safety.
If rapists are "monsters" or "others," then normal people feel safer. The idea that someone you know, trust, or like could commit rape is psychologically destabilizing. People would rather believe danger wears a visible uniform.

3. It creates distance from the problem.
People want sexual violence to be something done by a small group of "bad men," not something that could happen within normal social circles, relationships, or friend groups. The real pattern forces self-reflection, which is uncomfortable.

4. It is politically useful.
Different groups have, at different times, used different stereotypes of rapists to push their own narratives - race-based, class-based, or ideological. That doesn't mean the stereotype is accurate; it means it has propaganda value.

5. Real patterns are boring and complex.
Reality is messy: people know each other, alcohol is involved, boundaries are blurred, power is uneven, people rationalize. None of that makes for a clean PSA or an easy movie plot.

You're like 5 times more likely to be raped by someone in your family / inner circle than by some random anti social loser who asks for your number at college.

This is well known at this point, they just like to demonize unattractive people
