>I didn't buy that game because I didn't think I'd enjoy it
Society: "Okay, you can have preferences"
>I didn't buy that car because I wasn't sure it would fit my needs
Society: "Okay, not every car is for everyone"
>I didn't buy that computer because it wasn't good for my workflow
Society: "Well that makes perfect sense, your computer should fit your workflow"
>I didn't eat that food because I don't like the taste
Society: "WOAH THERE, WHY ARE YOU SUCH A PICKY EATER? ARE YOU AUTISTIC? QUIT BEING SO IMMATURE! YOU NEED TO EAT EVERY FOOD THAT'S PUT IN FRONT OF YOU! OH YOU ORDERED WHAT YOU LIKE AT A RESTAURANT? YOU'RE SUCH A WEIRDO!"
Why is food the only thing you're not allowed to have preferences on?

I think your parents judged you too harshly as a child and it's inflated your sense of how much anyone cares what you do

>the only thing you're not allowed to have preferences on?
*the only thing on which you're not allowed to have preferences?

It really is strange how many people fly into a seething rage when they see someone order a burger and ask for no onions.
>>
What, is it wrong to be weirded out when a grown ass adult won't eat anything other than plain burgers and chicken tenders?
>>
When dealing with picky kids, hunger beats pickiness eventually.
When I was being a picky little shit as a kid, my parents would tell me "you don't have to eat it now, but it will be the next thing you eat." I'd usually break within a couple hours.
>>
Only /ck/ fags go into a fit of seething rage when you try to eat food the way you want.
>>
I have some pretty bad memories of sitting at the table for literal hours staring at food that would literally make me gag the second it touched my tongue. I physically could not swallow it. And my parents would be yelling at me saying I had to eat it and I'd try to explain to them that I wanted to but I just couldn't, but they didn't want to hear it.
Sometimes I'd coat it in a shitload of salt and pepper or drink water as I put it in my mouth so I wouldn't have to taste it, but for some reason they got mad at that too even though I was eating it.
I've mostly grown out of that but maybe that's partially because as an adult I can eat what I want so I just don't buy foods that make me gag.

That sounds like ARFID anon.
>>
>>83274368
I don't have ARFID, I'll eat a variety of foods. If anything, I have the opposite of ARFID, where there are only a few foods I won't eat
>Onions
>Olives
>Bell peppers
That's pretty much it. And yet it was like my parents went out of their way to put those in as many things as possible.
Of course, there are plenty more foods that I don't necessarily like but I'll eat them if there's no other option.

Not liking onions is a red flag, the other two are acquired taste fair play there
>>
>>83274397
Not liking onion is a bit nuts. They're in so much stuff
>>

everybody has preferences in tastes, and you are expected to base your purchases on your tastes. what is unacceptable is refusing what you are presented with. you would also be looked down upon for refusing to use a car provided for you, or not using an available computer because you arbitrarily didn't like it. you will also be looked down on for not putting necessity above taste. in fact there's nothing special about food at all here and i think you're just looking for an excuse to feel self pity

>I'm full. Can I get a takeout box?
Here you go.
>>
>ask for a clean plate for the salad and another for the meat
WHOA HOW FUSSY. YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN THE PEOPLE WHO EAT EVERYTHING ON ONE PLATE? YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN US? YOU THINK YOU A RICH? WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU ARE RICH? I LOVE EATING LETTUCE ON THE PLATE I ATE SOUP ON, WHY DON'T YOU? YOUR PARENTS DID NOT RAISED YOU PROPERLY. DOES HE HAVE SOMETHING WRONG WITH HIM?
>>
I don't care how people want their steak cooked
Honestly I don't really even like steak
>>

So you would agree that it's wrong to judge someone for ordering something they like at a restaurant? Like if I order a burger and say to not put onions on it someone would be in the wrong if they called me weird?
>>
>>83274722
I like steak but I only eat it on special occasions. Personally I prefer a nice buttery New York strip, reverse seared to a perfect medium.

Maybe some cheesecake for dessert...
