Were you afraid of the dark as a kid? I got a theory about fear. Fear is a capacity, a reflex, a kind of liquid that fills a bottle. The bigger your bottle, the more fear you have. The more your tolerance for reality. So, say you were afraid of the dark. I was. Your fear didn't go, but your fear of the dark did. Now you have the capacity for fear. Now maybe you fear cancer or rape or financial ruin. You fear those things just as strongly as you feared the dark, if not more. Maybe you reach 80. Those things are behind you, but you got fear overflowing the bottle, as the more you pay attention to your fears, the stronger they become. Now you fear for your kids and grandkids, maybe you fear death. And probably that's the ultimate state of fear. The real and tangible. Fear is a capacity.
