I believe it was called a Boudoir because back in Boudoir times this room was the only opportunity to see a lady naked.The etymology most likely comes from "booty" and "our", our booty or our body, a body-our room, since ladies would refer to themselves as "we" back then.It was the designated booty room back in the fully dressed times.
I miss when every house had a private study, a room that was meant purely for research.Now you have 1 room with literally everything in it. I've seen people with a weight bench, PC and bed in the same room. Functional, yes, mentally deranged, yes.
