Fourth official thread!!!
What did you bots think of A Christmas Carol by Dickens????
Did you finish it?
Did you enjoy the process of reading/listening to it?
Any favorite stave (chapter)?
Any unrelated reflections you want to share?...

>POLL TIME!!!
VOTE HERE: https://strawpoll.com/PbZqbxX7ByN
Pick 3!
Only *1* book will be read.
A tie? The shorter book wins! So we know that more people are able to finish it. It's one way to break up the tie, if you have any other idea just say so!

For the synopsises of the books, check here : https://www.goodreads.com/search?q=&qid=

If you don't know how long a book will really be even when looking at the audiobook time then consider the fact that an anime episode is around 20 minutes long and do the math from here!

If the thread ends before the end of the poll (or if I messed up the timer on the poll). Just refer back to the poll to know which one won, you can get the link to this thread in the archive by typing "sbr".

>REMINDER
Every book rec gets snapped out of existence like in your favorite Marvel movie every thread, so recommend the same one you recommended before if you want to be able to vote for it next time! Or some new ones!

--PRESENTATION--

>What is SBR?
SBR stands for Some Bots Read (previously known as Project: Stop Being Retarded)

>What is a Bot?
Someone from the Brotherhood Of Tardation (B.O.T), a member of SBR (you, maybe!)

>What is the point of this thread?
Book club. By retards, for retards. We vote on a book, read it, discuss it once a month (always on weekends). All so you end up maybe slightly less stupid and illiterate

>Do I HAVE to read the same books?
Yes! But also no. Everybody who reads is welcomed to shill what they want, but you won't be a part of the broader discussion and you'll get the book we're reading spoiled for yourself. IF you're talking about an unrelated book's plot points please use the spoiler function. You're also free to ask more personal literature questions to other Bots, but if you seek responses from people who *actually* read then feel free to go on /lit/ instead, or make a new thread on /r9k/

>Do I HAVE to finish them?
You don't need to finish them if you don't like them, but if you want to discuss it and tell us why exactly it wasn't your thing, be prepared to get spoiled the rest of the story you did not finish (obviouslyyy)

>Where do I get my books and audiobooks?
Has everything, including non-English : https://fmhy.net/
Most popular place to get EPUBs and PDFs : https://annas-archive.org/
Most popular place to get (English) Audiobooks : https://audiobookbay.lu/

>Reading on your phone?
Install ReadEra or any other e-Reader. You might also need to install a dictionary app (and link it up to the e-reader application for ease of use)

>I-I can't finish it!! I can't concentrate!!
It's normal. Try disconnecting from your computer (I know, I know) and try reading either in the morning, or at night if you're relaxed and not sleepy. If you use your computer before reading you probably won't be able to concentrate much. Also whispering the words can help you stay concentrated. As well as putting some non-intrusive music (check "dark academia" or the Helder channel on youtube). Audiobooks also help a lot, you can read them while walking or even while playing some mindless game you played a thousand times like minecraft. Now add some music in the background and you can safely consooom it and miss like a fourth of it, but hey, you could say you read it!

Humbug!

It was a nice experience, it's been a long time since I don't read something like it, I really enjoyed the whole thing and its touching, pleasing nature, it's the kind of stuff I would hear from my grandma and I love it.

>Any favorite stave (chapter)?
II > IV > III > I > V
The 2nd one reminded me of my own past and how I used to enjoy a lot more being around people. I also really like the 3rd one almost as much.

>Any unrelated reflections you want to share?...
This book made me reconaider paying more attention to simpler things in life, like the many small joys of this time of the year. Not much to say for now.

Hello Mr. Smartie

>It was a nice experience, it's been a long time since I don't read something like it, I really enjoyed the whole thing and its touching, pleasing nature, it's the kind of stuff I would hear from my grandma and I love it.
Yes same it's very human, it's like a sort of story told by the fire. It doesn't try to be complex, it only tries to remind you of things you already know but may have drifted away from. Like a Christmas movie, one of the OG if you will.
I also personally liked the idea of the three ghosts, I saw them that way: The ghost of the past, through his features, represents hazy and everso changing memories. The ghost of the present, through his height, the importance of it and through his age, the passage of time. The ghost of the future is not shown because it's not set in stone. Idk if that's accurate but I'm rolling with that and will not google it.

>II > IV > III > I > V
Same rankingerino! I also liked the 2nd best as it also gave me a sort of nostalgia. It was also interesting to see Scrooge lament over his mistake of having chosen the wrong path.

>This book made me reconaider paying more attention to simpler things in life, like the many small joys of this time of the year. Not much to say for now.
Yes same, the third stave especially was good for that since it was looking at people's jolly Christmas diners. It made me want to read other Christmas books, so I'll probably read one more that was on the list before the 25th.

>Yes same it's very human [...]
Yeah, I miss those things.

>I also personally liked the idea of the three ghosts[...]
My interpretation was similar, the Yet to Come ghost reminds me of uncertainty too, things like death, decay and aging, things we try to forget but can't escape.

>Same rankingerino! I also liked the 2nd best as it also gave me a sort of nostalgia. It was also interesting to see Scrooge lament over his mistake of having chosen the wrong path.
It reminds me of good moments that won't happen again, I really liked it.

Same, I think I'll just put them on a roulette and read the one it chooses.

>My interpretation was similar, the Yet to Come ghost reminds me of uncertainty too, things like death, decay and aging, things we try to forget but can't escape.
Yes the fact that he's silent helps with the uncertainty (and maybe also the fact that Scrooge isn't really getting help from him except by pointing his finger). Also he reminded me of The Reaper which is most likely on purpose to represent death

>Yeah, I miss those things.
>It reminds me of good moments that won't happen again, I really liked it.
Samerino samerino!

>Same, I think I'll just put them on a roulette and read the one it chooses.
Hope you have fun with the book you land on!! I for one will read Dumas because I never watched the Nutcracker ballet all the way through so I'll be able to compare right after since it's based on it
>>
So... what can be done now?
I know you wasn't expecting much from this project but it's kinda sad (but not surprising at all) to see your effort and care being ignored while the same sexual, racial and political bait and other kinds of shitty threads stay there flooding an unfiltered catalog.
Is the new captcha to blame too? Will more people come here with more frequent reminders or something? Do you plan on changing something, try it somewhere else, etc.?

Thanks!

Well now... Idk!
I know *why* it failed and that's entirely my fault since I should've posted reminders every day. But I was like no way Jose I don't have time to wait 3 to 5 hours at minimum for my thread to die every day especially since I tend to type very slowly. It's stupid but it was my reasoning for being like
>J-Just (s)need to get to this day to post the reminder... Then I'll be free enough to interact with people...
And then never posting reminders.

So yes I do believe that more people would've been here if a reminder was posted. At least we would be able to get some fresh blood who just stumbled upon a reminder for every bot who left (hypothetically). And maybe the captcha accelerated things, not really sure.

For now I have no plan. I think if I continue it here I'll at least skip next month, maybe more so we restart anew. If not that then doing it on an altchan could be good and the threads would be up for days which is useful. And if I end up doing it I'll make an info post here that you can search on the archive by typing SBR. So uh yeah I mean tbqh (desu) I haven't thought about it too much since I was focused on seeing how long this social experiment goes for. It would be a shame to not have these threads anymore because they did get me to read more (1 book a month at least!), but at the same time I'm also the worst guy ever to host that kinda thing because like a stupid idiot retard I started it right before becoming really busy. So maybe I'll wait to be free as a bird and start again while posting daily reminders. Honestly I dunno anon sorry kek, with me always expect "I dunno." I'm the most indecisive person ever (I didn't even know if I should start these threads and only bit the bullet and went yolo why not because people seemed interested). Kinda sucks for you since idk if we ever read one of your recs.

Either way!! Thanks for sticking with it for so long!! I award you the Order of Merit of the Brotherhood Of Tardation!!
>>
>>83438959
Thank you for the award! really warms my day.

There are two main things that made me like SBR; I like how it gave me a reason to read more, but the main thing was really the interaction and mainly your presence and how you always act in a nice and patient way, the most enjoyable thing I've found on this board in a very long time, something to be missed.
If you decide to continue doing it here, can I post the reminders? I have plenty of time to do it and such.

>Kinda sucks for you since idk if we ever read one of your recs.
Don't worry, it's fine.

Anyway, I wish a Merry Christmas, a prosperous 2026 to come and a nice outcome in whatever your decision is.
Thank you again, Frierenon.

A-A-Are you trying to hit on me too??! Chill out nonnon I might take you up on that offer... But thank you it's very nice!! I Of course I'm gonna be nice and patient since I enjoyed interacting with you people a lot. You always had smart things to say and I always looked forward to seeing you in the next thread.

>If you decide to continue doing it here, can I post the reminders? I have plenty of time to do it and such.
Oooh yesh that's more than possible if you're okay with that. You'll get paid in images of me giving you shekelerinos (basically a free NFT! (that you can't sell, always read the fine lines))

>Don't worry, it's fine.
I'll read some of your bookerinos in the list your honor

>Anyway, I wish a Merry Christmas, a prosperous 2026 to come and a nice outcome in whatever your decision is.
Thank you very much!! Right back to you!! Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!! Hope everything will go well for you

>Thank you again, Frierenon.
