It's my number 1 rec here, if you can stomach the extreme stuff it's great. "Malak" is short and fun, written from an interesting perspective. The author, Peter Watts, did Blindsight too which is well regarded but I haven't read it. Finally, "All Tomorrows". I didn't enjoy it per se but it was interesting. Most of the book is just descriptions of species and overviews of (future) history. Some people really love it and say it made them feel things.
