half sword is fucking epic
what games have robots been playing?
i have over 80 hours in this thing and it's a fucking tech demo

I played Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2. 1 was fun except all of the HQ fights were awful and the balance was all over the place. I fucking hate stealth units. 2 wasn't a real rts garbage game and you can't even play all the races from and the campaign is way worse for everyone except Tyranids because they weren't in 1. 1 kept crashing, too. Got tired of vidya after that.

This Hellish Quart?
I was thinking about buying it
>>
I struggled a lot with half sword, I didn't really understand how the physics work. I guess I'm just a really bad gamer.

It takes 2 years to be proficient at something, nice dubs.

Kenshi. Its my most played game, the only one I have over 1000 hours in.
>>
Farthest Frontier. This is what Banished wished it could have been, probably the best city builder I've played in a while.
That Tavern Keeper game is really good too, waiting for it to get more work done, the version I played was too buggy, but was still insanely addictive for how buggy it was.

Yeah its the new update.

Hellish quart is a different realistic sword game. This one is like not a 1v1 fighting game, you go around in the arena in 3D and swing sword with mouse or something. Idk haven't played in a while.

>>83442992
Thanks. I don't really want to play the game for 2 years just to get good at it though. I do have a passing interest in HEMA stuff.

I was interested in it cause it was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Bushido Blade, and I loved Bushido Blade

i've never tried the dawn of war games, are they the ones that play similarly to company of heroes?
feel like 1 and 2 are relatively old, how long has it been since you've played any games?
>>83442975
no it's a game called halfsword, i think it's a lot more dynamic than hellish quart
it's entirely physics based with the movement of your weaponry being tied to the movement of your mouse, giving you much more control over every movement
you're not locked into premade animations like you are with most other fighting games, even games that incorporate mouse movements into the control like mordhau or mount and blade just use your mouse movement to determine which premade animation you use
>>83442977
i've seen a fair few people struggling with the game, it can take a fair bit of getting used to
one thing that helped me a lot early on was lowering the sensitivity and focusing on repeating the same moves to familarise myself with the movement, as i got more confident and began to feel more in control i increased the sensitivity which allowed me to engage in faster and more powerful strikes
>>83442995
how'd you describe it to a rimworld player?
>>
>>83443048
That's what I heard too. I think it'll be perfect for you if that's what you're looking for. I don't think it has any magic on it or anything.
>>
>>83443048
Nothing has been able to come close to Bushido Blade because it either wants to be a graphical Unreal juggernaut that if it had decap physics peoples PCs would explode or it wants to be a multiplayer arcade game where you're not allowed to 1 shot people and maim people.
Chivalry you can maim people and cut off both their arms or one of them, but thats it, you can't 1 shot people easily.

>how'd you describe it to a rimworld player?
Kenshi is not at all like Rimworld. There's a barebones colony sim that can you can work with if you want with somewhat functional automation and work scheduling, but it's puddle deep and you have all basic needs solved extremely quickly. The point of Kenshi isn't to make a colony that survives, it's to run around like an 80s kung-fu movie reject and make up headcanon stories for your characters while they go through their training arcs and try not to get their limbs cut off. At least until you try to get all their limbs cut off because wow holy shit those masterwork robot prosthetics give how much fucking strength?

So if you make a colony in Kensh you treat it like an 80s kung-fu movie reject, and spend most of your time making up little headcanon stories about what's going on while a hoard of naked cannibals is getting turned into harpoon pincushions at your front gate.

I've never played Company of Heroes. DoW1 has 2 resources, requisition points and energy. Req needs you to go out on the map and take points and build onto them, energy everyone has a power generator they can build but there are better power generators usually out on the map. You have to build new buildings with workers units and have research buildings to build to progress tech. Kind of squad based units, build 1 sister of battle get 6, you can add 4 more squad members, buy a leader that is usually a better and equipped fighter and buffs the unit, add another commander type unit like your main hero, cannoness or whatever, buy 4 flamethrowers for them. You have infantry, vehicles, and air units (only in Soulstorm). A lot of units, too.
The campaign for the base game I never played. Winter Assault you go back and forth between playing as Orks and Imperial Guard. Was alright, Orks were way more fun. Dark Crusade the campaign you're on like a risk map and everything is split between the races and it's a free for all. 1 move per turn, you get req points for territories and some give buffs, req points are for buying honor guard units for your hero to bring in or garrison units that'll be there when you are defending. Campaign is a little easy sometimes because buildings mostly stay when you own the territory so repeated defenses can turn it a super stronghold.
Soulstorm adds Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle and changes the map so it's kind of worse but kind of better. Adds flying units which I don't really like. The campaign map gameplay is mostly the game except most of your buildings don't stay after you take land and repeat defenses. Bigger unit sizes via tech upgrades. There are voiced cutscenes and stuff and story in all of this btw.
I played those games today, I like old games.
2 is different, more like a small scale RTT and the campaigns are little hallway maps you have to endlessly click everywhere and everything like you're playing Diablo.

It's got a steep learning curve. The controls are not intuitive whatsoever. BUT they allow for incredible freedom of movement once you become accustomed. And that's what makes it so enjoyable.
>>
>>83443009
It's okay, rarely do people stick with something for 2 years. I tell myself that a lot because losing makes me go crazy. HEMA is cool, I have a passing interest in it as well.

Company of Heroes 1 is what Dawn of War 1 fans wanted Dawn of War 2 to be, just with a WW2 theme instead of a 40k theme. It's the same devs but with more experience, all of the core elements DoW1 introduced were polished and expanded upon in CoH1. Resources are base building are the same, capture points are the same, but there's a lot more tactical depth in terms of unit placement and faction powers are fun to use without making it feel like a MOBA-lite like DoW2 devolved into.

Yeah there are specific unit upgrades and equipment for everyone and 4 hours with skill trees and multiple abilities. I couldn't even get past a couple of missions of Orks or Eldar. Retribution has a mode that's an endless horde action mode with the heroes and 3 players vs AI but I didn't play it. I should check out Company of Heroes but most of my gaming time will be occupied by WARNO soon.
