i mean maybe some of them, but it's cocaine and alcohol that bring out the worst in people. bunch of people on MDMA listening to Tiesto and you're all collectively having a wonderful time.

for something like a rock band, i dunno, it's just cool seeing a live performance. in the past you had no choice, really, that was just how you heard music. i can even enjoy bad music like a terrible local band, just because it's a fun event with other people. "you wouldn't listen to a recording of the same music" is true, but that's not the entirety of the experience.

theres for example Sheer Mag who are great live. its fun to sing along at live shows as well...you can go at the top of your lungs and no one can hear over the band.

so yeah, being able to sing along with the actual band is fun...i dont really care for edm, its all pretty samey and watching some guy hit buttons now and then is not at all the same experience as people giving it their all singing and physically playing. nonetheless, i will say that jumping up and down til you get out breath while lights are strobing is a pretty trippy experience even aside from drugs being involved.

but you also go to meet other fans of the band or whatever it is...its a room full of babes who like the same band you do. im really not sure what there is to not get.

Not op, but the only live music events i'd ever go to would either be classical or something video game/movie music stuff, i don't think i'd ever want to go for something else.

Saw shpongle live at red rocks ripped off 3 tabs of acid. That music is so far above my level of comprehension. I went with friends to this day i dont know what i watched or listened to

but you can absolutely sit down and enjoy a performance. i've seen plays and stand-up comedy, knowing full-well i could watch a recorded version (or a movie) in the comfort of my own home. i enjoyed them more being there in an audience.

Pretty much this. The last concert I went to was a string ensemble playing Vivaldi's 4 seasons in a church. That was 2 years ago I think. Really incredible performance, especially the way the double bass brought a percussive element when he hit the strings. Sadly the experience was marred because some retard brought his kids along, and the kids in my row kept kicking the pew. Telling them to "stop" only got me an angry glare from their Dad, and they kept kicking anyway. Shit society, don't expect anything good if you can't even expect common courtesy.

The thing about rave culture (besides sex and drugs obviously) is that everyone love bombs each other with positivity and treats each other like best friends. It gives a sense of community and connection even if it's just faked for one night. Along with the dancing and drugs and whatever else it's just a very childlike thing away from the stiffness and responsibility of everyday life.
