what do you do when your parents buy you expensive gifts regardless of how many times you tell them it's not needed/too much? I have a perfectly fine phone and I hate overconsumption anyway and my mom bought me a new phone for Christmas. we're not the wealthiest family anyway and she just impulsively buys these things. You can't fucking imagine how many times I've told her PLEASE DONT BUY ME A PHONE PLEASE DONT BUY ME A PHONE and she does it anyway. am i overreacting?

no, overconsumption is retarded and in your case the opposite of thoughtful
it's a bad purchase and a bad gift

You will just have to tell her to fuck off until she understands. My family still brings to me the story when I looked at them like shit for a gift I didn't want, but the problem disappeared.

Or a compromise is just giving her a list or cheap stuff she can get you instead of phones you don't need.
