People call depression a mental illness because it threatens the social lie that life is basically fine if you think positively enough. But depressed people are actually more accurate about control, limits, and outcomes, while everyone else gets by on instinctive self-deception (optimism bias, fake agency, etc.) because a naked awareness of death, contingency, and nature's indifference would paralyze survival. What gets labeled "mental health" is really just the ability to maintain the comforting illusions that effort guarantees reward, that existence has intrinsic meaning, that the future trends upward. Depression is what happens when the bullshit stops working and you're stuck looking at things as they actually are. No God myth, no durable order, no cosmic concern, just blind processes grinding on. Of course society pathologizes this because a system built on progress narratives can't tolerate people who accurately perceive how little control they have and how thin the justifications are. Depression is clarity that happens to be maladaptive in a world that rewards delusion over truth.
>>83475030The last time you made this thread it was instantly full of people criticizing you for pointing this out, literally proving your point, it was quite funny.
depression just doesn't do anything for you. you might as well be delusional.
10 million in monopoly. could use that.
Depression happens when life is easy enough to spend time intellectualizing it. Consciousness is not a natural state of being. The ability to introspect and imagine is itself a defect.
>>83475030agreed. but i say this as a the supposed "awake" depressed person looking down on the supposed "alseep" toxic positive normies. but i hate them because i know they hate me for being a downer.
>>83475030Depression is a mental illness because it negatively impacts the person with it. It has nothing to do with anything you said.
>>83475030Depression is a spiritual sickness caused by living in sin and rejecting God
yes andwhat do I do with this information?cum from raw self-superiority??????????
>>83475613>negatively impacts the persomeaningless because relative
>>83475670Everything is relative, what do you mean? If you have all the symptoms of depression except you aren't suffering, then you definitionally do not have a mental illness.
>>83475030I agree with everything you've said, however i think that this information can give you more control than you think you have. Since you already see the processes of society and nature and perhaps even technology, even if you have little to no control over any of it you can still predict how it goes, and use it to your benefit.
Mental illness is real. Just look at people with schizophrenia. Depression, however, is just a meme. It's always a symptom, not the disorder.
>>83475732How can you exploit something you have little to no control over?
>>83475030I feel this way too but I don't understand how I'm supposed to cope with this. The only reason I don't kill myself is because I know deep down I'm afraid of dying but I also realize how harsh life is for the vast majority of people and feel like shit for sticking my head in the sand. I know at least that I'll never personally bring kids into this world, I realized that a long time ago.
>>83475836Because you don't need enough to control to change or affect it, you only need enough to change your relation to it.
>>83475030Depression is just a combination of atheist + high IQ
>>83476430sorry but this is just a retarded cope. ive met plenty of depressed morons, some religious, and i myself have had depression. >>83475030>because a naked awareness of death, contingency, and nature's indifference would paralyze survival.this is also retarded. i've been aware of mortality since i was like 11 and for most of that time it has not bothered me in the slightest, sometimes it's just a little disappointing to think that i won't leave anything behind since i'm not rich and don't want to bring children into this shithole of a planet.
Depression is illness because it has inflammation markers associated with it. For example, the lethargy of depression has similar mechanisms to fever, and depression also withdraws your blood iron (which is immune response to infection actually). All in all depression is just when body acts like you are ill when you aren't. When humans have infections, they act exactly like depressed people. Both are ways our body preserves energy for survival and recovery.
>>83476500That's not really true. Depression involves a lot of cognitive processes. The flu doesn't make people suicidal. Depression is just a label describing a wide range of disorders that have similar symptoms. Not all depressions even come with inflammation.
