>>83476773>what's the point of psych wardsdepends a lot on where you live.i'm chilean and i had the luck that my parents could afford a private clinic, i've been told personally that public ones are literal hell, i imagine the situation is dramatically better in norway or something like that.anyway, the point is to stabilize you OR stop you from killing yourself. there aren't many activities to do, most of the time is spent reading and talking with the other patients, you can't have any electronics besides an mp3 player, in general it's very boring.the atmosphere as you can imagine is very dull and sad. difficult to describe, i don't see how anybody could feel fine there.the clinic i mention is called clinica macul, yall can google it.

>>83476773can't speak for every psych ward, but when i went in (teen psych ward, i think i was 16) many years ago, it was basically just a place where i couldn't kill myself and was so miserable and boring that it essentially scared me out of ever telling anyone else i was suicidal ever again for fear of getting sent back. it was borderline torture for someone with an attention span as bad as mine, i think i probably would have gone insane if i didn't get my hands on the only complete deck of cards available on the floor and played solitaire 8 hours a day. i'm pretty sure it's much worse for adult psych rooms though

Really for stabilization. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen often because of the inherent way they are set up. You are more likely to get worse if you are bored, which is a common complaint. The majority of staff are single moms with zero knowledge of behavioral health. They can easily milk insurance and will do so until insurance says no more. It's very dehumanizing. Meds are forced onto others, with refusing meds for valid reasons like it makes you violently ill means you are not treated and need more time in the grippy socks. You cannot exercise except walking. When do that, the unhealthy chain-smoking staff will laugh saying to stop wearing paths in the floor. The food flat out sucks. Each patient gets a generic diagnosis like le depression and le anxiety. Many who are diagnosed with a disorder which they get a controlled med are given a complete alternative that does nothing (e.g. give a person with ADHD depakote instead of the Adderall they are legally prescribed, a person with chronic pain issues legally orescribed a long acting opiate gets jist tylenol and ibuprofen.) Phone calls are monitored, and even if there is a death in the family, it's "distressing" and therefore "not therapuetic to release them."Why do I say this? I worked in one and I was disgusted by it. I worked as the person who did intakes and referrals for aftercare. It's jist another big money industry. There are legit people who need it. Unfortunately, the system is set-up to make them fail.
