It gives you something uniquely comforting and exciting to look forward to when you're not with her. It also expands your social circle via her friends and gives you a consistent sense of validation and needing/seeking less of it. I probably can't give the best answer, only done it once for about 2 months, and in hindsight it felt surreal, as if it was another person's experience that I can't take credit for even though it was me and yes I can
