I feel like we were lied to about what the future held in the 90s (Greatest Decade of all human history, unless you lived in Eastern Europe). We survived Y2K, sure, but 9/11? 2008 Economic Downturn? COVID and such? I dunno man, kind of feel like we got scammed in a big way.

The post-WW2 prosperity that the western world had is an aberration in human history that was bound to crash back to suffering. Unfortunately, the human experience is one of struggle. The boomers could've kept the good times around longer if they weren't selfish retards but thems the brakes

everything is too expensive now

90s and early 2000 shows where so god damn good. even the shitty sitcoms were worth watch because each show always had a beautiful woman. i used to jerk off to the show step by step the blonde

I'm no stranger to how neoliberalism took over and is essentially screwing us now, but I don't think anyone could've predicted just how bad it would get, especially post-Y2K. Folks wonder why people in my generation (Millennials) are so nostalgic for the 90s, but many things were OBJECTIVELY BETTER back then.

In retrospect, yeah...include the early-2000s in that, too. Granted, a lot of things had a hyperpatriotic undertone to them (being after 9/11 and all), but really, there was a sort of careful optimism that lasted well until about 2009, even in the midst of the Downturn. I mean just remember the games too...Halo and such.

games are "OBJECTIVELY BETTER" now graphically and stagnant insofar as gameplay, although the best gaming i have ever personally experienced are from souls games which was well outside the 90's and 00's.
music and tv are horrible BUT i have 4 external hardrives full of tv shows from the 90's and 00's many of which are hd or upscaled to hd that i can randomly shuffle on a playlist on my big ass hdtv. couldn't do that in the 90's. no blockbuster? ok but now i can torrent any movie ever in under 5 minutes. tik tok and instagram let me look at anyones life on a daily basis so i never feel like i left highschool with the amount of histrionic jailbait im surrounded with.
the media worse yes but consider that your music library is likely gargantuan and on a lark you can randomly delve into anyones full discography
EVERYTHING is worse
and yet
somehow EVERYTHING is better
for a millennial at least.it feels like i'm a super millenial with how much ive improved the way i interact with all of these above things

You're aware the US/Europe are several times wealthier now than they were in 1955?

Our countries aren't broke, we've let corporatism take over and infiltrate our democracies. The shit they threw the Boston Tea Party over (that was against the Dutch East India company, a corporation, not the generic "British") is peanuts compared to the fleecing we're getting today.

Everything is a scam. Everything is designed to make you work harder for less money. Everything is designed to make you gullible and obedient. You think they can't build new houses? They can fucking build new houses. They refuse to because it would drive the housing market back down to realistic levels. No, a house you bought in 1975 for $60,000 is NOT worth $500,000 now. It's a scam.
