Robot furniture/room thread, I guess. What do you guys sit in all day? I imagine most of us just have a computer chair and bed, but surely there have to be a few robots who use sofas or armchairs?I'm trying to buy something new for my TV seat, since my old chair (pic related) broke this morning. They offer a newer version at IKEA but it's almost triple the price and still has the same shit tier weight rating (242lbs "normal load" which assuredly can't account for having to throw all body weight on the arms to stand up from less than a foot off the ground)I can't afford much and it seems like most stuff is fucking expensive and uncomfortable... Plus I'll need to be able to fit it in my small car and carry it up a narrow staircase to get it indoors.
>>83645354>no rear legsThe entire thing is supported by the tension of the front legs? Probably made of press board? You wouldn't catch me anywhere near that kind of deathtrap.
>>83645354>242lbs "normal load"The average male American weighs 199 pounds. If you weigh less than that, you probably can't afford IKEA furniture. If you weigh much more than that, you can't use the furniture. Interesting problem. The practical solution is to lower the average weight of the American male.
>>83645508First of all I don't believe you at all on that average weight. Maybe if you include all the Hispanic manlets, but 90% of men I see walking around outside look like they weigh at least 225.Besides the point, even if you do weigh 199lbs, if you're 6 feet tall, and sitting in a chair slung 8 inches off the ground at the lowest point (like the Pello), you'll be exerting far more than 200lbs of force on the chair arms when you have to use them to stand up. In that sense, it's a poor design because do it enough times and something is bound to break, but there is no other way to leave a chair in that position, so in essence it is made for people who weigh probably 175lbs or less.Besides that, IKEA purposely uses a low-threshold weight test so that all of their furniture can be claimed to be "durable" but it doesn't really account for practical every day use.
>>83645581"Average" doesn't mean you'll see dudes who are exactly 199 pounds walking around on the normal. Not in this K-shaped economy.
>>83645774Nice buzzwords but that being said, what does the "average" man sit in, in this economy?
Home furnishings are a Jewish trickEmbrace the Japanese lifestyle and live your days out on the floor
>>83645354i had a chair like this before they are pretty comfy>What do you guys sit in all day?i wfh and have a lazyboy that i sit at pulled up to my desk lole shit goes hardif u want cheap furniture op go and look at yardsales or drive around and look for stuff people leave outside and fix it up, beware bedbugs and stuff, use common sense((((facebook)))) marketplace is oknever buy this stuff new it's overpriced as fuck
>>83646046>The practical solution is to lower the average weight of the American male.
>>83645354Had one of these for years. It didn't break, just kids using it like it was a play thing. Writing on the wall said they'd break it. Goodwill'd it before that happened. Now that they are older, thinking redoing the livingroom with more of a floor setting kind of feel
>>83646340Secondhand is the way to go for any "hard" furniture, but no way in hell I'm buying someone's old upholstered stuff.>>83647395Slash your throat stupid normalfaggot, nobody asked. Also I hope your kids choke on their cereal.
>>83645354I have a chair like that as my computer chair. Don't buy the Ikea chair that was designed by some Japanese idiot who put a wooden bar accross the back rest so that its edge burrows into your back and begins to hurt like hell if you sit in it for too long.
>>83648088The one with the bar across the back is the Poang, the Pello was an older design that has an open frame covered by a membrane sling. If anything I'd assume the extra bar makes it more durable. And how the hell are you using a chair 10" off the ground for a desk?
>>83648098I don't have a desk. I'm not an office worker.
>>83648106You called it your computer chair. Do you really think people only have desks in offices?
>>83648117Yes, it's my computer chair. I don't think people only have desks in offices, I think people think you can only have computers on office desks when it's not true. It's even foolish to have one on the office desk because the office desk was not designed for using a computer and a lot of people get various ailments from using a computer at a desk because it causes tension in your body. The office desk was designed for paperwork and works great for that but for using a computer there are much better alternatives. Especially for home entertainment a big screen on a tv stand and a comfy armchair in front of it trumps any kind of desk.
i sit with one leg under my butt. it's more convenience to download stuff on the thinkpad otherwise I would normally not have it out
I sit on my bed most of the day. I like to collect stuffed animals and my hoard is ever growing.
>>83645354have experience with tons of high end chairs but dont like any of them longterm and have come to realize i dont like static chairs in general. so im gonna buy pic related and probably a sit stand desk
i weigh like 125 lbs this thing is perfect for me
