This is a lump of labor fallacy. In truth, an expanding labor force increases demand and productivity which drives wages up. It also increases the amount of income sources per household, which amplifies purchasing power as it's much easier to pay the bills on a double income than on a single one even if the house is smaller. Lastly, it frees people from forced bonds of dependency by giving them a choice about whether to associate with someone or not, as opposed to not seeing any alternative to becoming destitute.
