We have reason to think women were far more at risk from strangers back then, since women couldn't go out alone safely. That said, conditions were much harsher than they are now throughout history. Women were lucky to have essentially a gurenteed place in society. Economic mobility wasn't always the norm, and men were left out to die or work themselves to actual death, if they were lucky enough to attain a woman without a father aranging it. It's why the "chads" always had to send the young to go off and fight in wars to keep the unhoused disenfranchised young male population in check. So, to equate what happened throught history to what happens today is hardly a fair comparison. Imagine the economic gatekeeping that's happening now with boomers, except you had fewer rights, and everything good thag happens to you needs to happen through the church, if at all.I had optimism that women would want to take in poor men via feminism, but the reality is that men are not domesticated, and wealthy women as a whole hardly see men as worth housing. Women do not want men. Men want women, which is why the dominant form of society was run by men who wanted to have all the women. The only alternative I can imagine maybe saving us is the gradual normalization of literal cucks, because men still do also want femboys.
