If someone isn't an atheist or at least like an Alex O'Connor-style agnostic, I cannot take them seriously as a person. I'm sorry. I can be friends with you but I'm always going to at least slightly look down on you.

Same for belief in ghosts, ESP, astrology, extraterrestrial visitation, etc.

what's "Alex O'Connor-style agnostic"?

im the same mostly but ive had some weird experiences and seen some weird shit so i tend to be more forgiving

>at my great grandpas funeral
>pouring rain hard
>after ceremony suddenly weather clears for a few minutes
>when we get in the car and go to leave it starts again
clearly not related but was pretty spooky

Alex O'Connor no longer identifies as an atheist but makes kind of theism-skeptical content. I don't really agree with his position but I think it's at least a respectable, intellectual, thoughtful position which makes me think "okay, this person at least uses their brain and is not an NPC"

I don't fully know his current views but something like "agnostic but quite open to idea of creator deity-entity", I think

I have close friends who I do feel that way about. I don't see them as being less deserving of respect and friendship, but I'm sure plenty of people here who have friends who, on intellectual topics, just feel it's not worth trying to take super seriously. I'll always have their back in general. Just not on matters like these.

Selection bias etc. I have a family history of schizophrenia and so drugs can easily induce acute psychosis in me, which actually has made me more rational as when the psychosis ends I can have a full recollection of my prior brain state and thinking process and then realize "oh, that was just my brain being fucking broken, nothing out of the ordinary actually was happening here".
>>

yea but it doesn't mean "I look down on you" lol

yeah, im self aware enough to know it was bullshit and not some divine act
still spooky tho

I see, I guess?
Given how argue-ready people are on the internet, I can see why "middle ground" can be seen as thoughtful, but honestly, speaking from my own experience, it's possible to take the middle ground to the silly extreme too.

The universe is either non-real or non-local, probably both. I don't really give a shit what anyone believes because what little we know of the truth is already fucking nuts.

Take the absurdism pill.

Not quite. Alex O'Connor isn't a theist, because he doesn't really believe that God is a person. Moreso he is skeptical of materialism, beause he sees mind-body dualism as likely true. Ex. where is the color red inside my brain, yadda yadda. Since he thinks there might be something true that transcends material reality, he says that he's an agnostic. But he's pretty resistant to the idea that God is a person who judges us or makes mandates about the world order.

I love glegle. They're so chill and pretty, and I wish I looked like them. Don't wanna be a foid or a moid, just a glegle.

The Abrahamic and Karmic ontologies are false, but there definitely is God.

There's only 3 options for what foundational reality is;

1. Consciousness

2. Matter

3. Nothing.
Consciousness is the most logical option.

I'm a schizo so I definitely believe in afterlife, esp, all that kind of shit but I do not believe for a second in some kind of "God" that you owe anything to. Is this sufficiently non-theist or do you have to be a pure materialist across the board to qualify?
>>
>>83673275
I'm an atheist simply because, even if some sort of higher power being exists, I know enough to be sure it wouldn't fullfill all my requirements to be called "God".
