Alex O'Connor isn't a theist, because he doesn't really believe that God is a person. Moreso he is skeptical of materialism, beause he sees mind-body dualism as likely true. Ex. where is the color red inside my brain, yadda yadda. Since he thinks there might be something true that transcends material reality, he says that he's an agnostic. But he's pretty resistant to the idea that God is a person who judges us or makes mandates about the world order.
