Why the hell is Ryza so damn chunky and thicc? Why tf does it keep zooming into closeups of her thighs? I'm shaking so hard I can barely keep a solid grip on the joystick ... crapp it's drooling again

It's a game mostly designed for tablet/phone I suppose, although it's for PS4 apparently. Lidenfilms produced an anime for the game which has a ton of camera angles, as usual, fan service. The unique thing about this character however is she has thick thighs, I suppose aiming to model a more "realistic" character versus the unnaturally thin stick-legged manga/anime female characters.

Since the character has that look to it however, the first episodes seem to have an unusual focus on maximizing fanservice screen time for her thighs.

While I get it, and I actually really like "more realistic" character design (young women ought not to feel insecure "omg i'm so fat" due to game characters) this is just super hilarious for me. The undue amount of focus just makes it so you know ... the producer is a lolicon with a thigh fetish.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, I mean hypothetically she's like what 20+ or something whatever. Still funny though.

It's funny like Prison School in that it's taking basic tropes to a whole new extreme.

Producer Junzo Hosoi stated in a 2025 interview that the characters' designs were influenced by the economic conditions of Japan during the Lost Decades. He cited a belief that during times of recession, people favor characters with "voluptuous body types" and "motherly characteristics".

>okay add mommy fetish to the list too

Is the Atelier Ryza trilogy good?
I only played Atelier Rorona way back in 2013-2014 and I didnt really like it. The time limits on that game were very annoying and made me anxious.

No idea, never tried it. I just started watching the anime and it seems obviously based upon a game. Lots of these another-world animes exist, but they rarely have the balance of game mechanics you'd expect from an actual game. Something normally feels "wrong" but this one is solidly designed and obviously based on an actual game.

My standards as a gamer are a bit different, since I'm a programmer of complex dynamical systems. For example I'd love to see a MMORPG RTS game with a fractal world like a mini planet. Since the 1990s I've imagined a seed-based fractal object system, such as take a "rock" for example. The rock isn't merely a fixed object, but a precise sub fractured part of a mineral or combination of minerals. The object has a "seed value" for a PRNG to feed into a fractal to generate object properties such as fracture zones. So if you strike the rock with a hammer, where it splits is like glass, pre-defined based upon the seed value but unique for every object.

I haven't succeeded in implementing such a system but that sort of thing would be awesome for a game. Imagine growing forests yourself where every tree has a "seed". Makes sense, right? Then every bit of wood is unique.
