I'm in the same boat. Schizo since at least 2017 but probably far longer earlier than that. I was able to manage it well enough to finish college but I have a huge hole in my resume now from being mentally ill and AI turned my degree into toilet paper.

I'm mainly worried that if I were to really need government assistance someday, the government might cut programs or go bankrupt or something. I always feel in the back of my mind like I could hold a job if I had to and it would be dishonest to just collect money. I'm finding that in my daily interactions with strangers, they quickly come to the conclusion that I have an intellectual disability, though and being employed might be a lot less realistic than I think.
