Why do karmic religions act like I should care for my karma and where my soul will go on its next life if the "me" that matters will already be dead?
>>83852479Because they're Indian or Chinese and their greatest desire is to be reborn as anything else.
>>83853285>their greatest desire is to be reborn as anything elseIf they are reborn as someone completely different, then they are no longer themselves. It still doesn't make sense to me.
>>83852479it's not a full reset, they promise a trascendence state of some kind for the soul once you get enough reddit karma
>>83852479Hmm, an interesting question. Would you find it a problem if your memory was completely wiped out so you lost your sense of identity, and your new self then got tortured?
>>83853361>Would you find it a problem if your memory was completely wiped out so you lost your sense of identity, and your new self then got tortured? Not OP but I don't see why I would care beyond not wanting anyone to be tortured. It's not me anymore, so?
>>83852479I think the point is your soul is "you" and your body is a vessel which contains it so saying your next is life is not "you" is wrong.
>>83853317That's the point they don't want to be themselves because they're Indian or Chinese.
>>83853374It wouldn't be "you" autobiographically but it would be the same "you" as a subjective viewpoint.
>>83853328>trascendence state of some kind for the soulAnd how would that affect the "me" I know and care about?>>83853361This question makes me think a bit... I don't know. I think I understand a little better the fear that buddhists have of samsara now. But still, if I were aware that this process of having my memory erased would happen tomorrow, for example, and that if I did something that gives me pleasure today, my new self of tomorrow would suffer, I think that I would still do it.>>83853395In a way, I see the soul (if it exists) and the physical body as fuel for the existence of the self, and not as an essential part of me.>>83853419They will stop being indian/chinese when they die too so why do they care about being reborn as something else?
>>83852479In the case of Buddhism, it's because your suffering won't be over for as long as you wander. Enlightenment is the real escape route, not death.
>>83853395That would apply in Hinduism but not Buddhism since it teaches that there's no "Self", but rather says the "Me" that you refer as is a mix of different collisions and circumstances
>>83853487>your sufferingMy soul is a fuel, not who I am. I'm my ego.
