I think as we age, our conception of what play is changes. For example when I was 15 I got my action figures together for one last "playtime" because I could feel that I wouldn't be able to do it again if I waited any longer. It was fucking awesome, and at 30 I still remember the day clearly, Master Chief and Duke Nukem saving the world and shit, fuck yeah. But now, I build gunpla, and imagine scenarios or characters, but I don't act them out. Instead I tell the story through the build itself, applied damage, decals, wash, kitbashes, painting, etc. I've tried writefagging too, which I think is another form of mature play, but I'm not confident or skilled enough to share it.
