Did /r9k/ ever play Yu-Gi-Oh!
>>84004487No, I played mtg
Just a few of the GBA games. I played Stairway to the Destined Duel so many times I overflowed the win counters multiple times per duelist. It was fun making up new strats in the old game. Now, I hear it's just plain shit with one turn taking 10 minutes being the norm.
>>84004487When I was a kid. The game looks unrecognizable now though.
I played when it came out as a kid for a couple of years. Stopped playing because the meta was getting annoying and card stores I would play at would get shut down cause pedos worked there
>I play some card that has 1 effect that allows me to draw 10 cards, which ome allows to me do another effrct provided I discard x amount of cards, but now I play the magic card that allows me to bring back the cards I justed discarded which one has an effect that activates when it is brought back from the grave yard which allows me to do this so I can play tjis card which allows me to do another effect>this goes on for 5 minutes in the very first turn of each opponentYes, it's fucking dumb now.
i played a little bit but there was no way my parents were buying me booster packs regularly so i never got deep into it. usually just played with friends' cards or one time my friends and i even printed out a bunch of cards and played with those.
>>84004487it was was too dorky for me growing up. one my friends convinced me to try the Steam version a few years ago and I hit alt+f4 after about an hour because my opponent was taking 20 minute turns every round while i either had no cards to play or he destroyed my ability to play anything
i actually just picked up a stardust for my edison deck, i havent played irl in a while but ive been building some older decks for collections sakes.this is the first and probably only edison deck im building, i have a bunch of goat format ones with the old card styles that i just enjoy looking at sometimes. i stopped playing when xyzs came out and nowadays its just a different game
>>84004487Yes and the game evolved and is better now. I still play time to time on masterduel, its fun.
>>84005038>synchro summon
>>84004556commander?please don't say standard only...
>>84004487I played it a long time ago. Before all of the syncro stuff and whatever else may be going on now. It was fun. My friend taught me how to play and gave himself a handicap. Basically he would double check if I'm sure before every move and we'd talk about how things I forget the word for it but chain together and the eventual outcomes of certain interactions. It was fun and I got really good at it
I had a team and it was my main social outlet for years. I stopped playing when Links dropped. Are HERO decks still playable? I could be bothered to try masterduel of it's easy to get a HERO deck that isn't trash.
I remember, as a kid, I'd go to the flea market were there was a Yugioh card vendor and buy from him. I was always excited to visit when I did, but the guys who were there dueling were real sweats, each time I'd duel them and I'd lose in like two moves. Fuck those guys
>>84004689me and my brother would steal from Target and Walmart from time to time to get ours. Looking back there's no way the security didn't see us, they were probably just letting us steal.
Tried playing Master Duel a few times. You either play meta or you lose. The gap between meta and non-meta is fucking astronomical.
>>84005845They just got some new support in the physical game (so like 6 months away in MD), but Im sure theyre still shit
>>84005923Tragic. HERO is the only deck I've ever loved.
>>84005929Same, if they were viable, Id play the real game, but theyre just so bad compared to the busted shit Konami keeps printingModern starters have like 4 different effects and can make their boss monsters under 5 summons very easily. Meanwhile, Stratos does 1 thing and its only on summon, plus youre way past nib range by the time Dark Law comes out
>>84004487Yes. I played it in middle school.
>>84006069What hobbies did you have in highschool?
>>84006196Anime and video games. Now it's just video games.
>>84005929They can reliably make this guy off just normal summoning Vyon or using Fusion Destiny as their starter, but I don't think it's enough.
>>84006215Did your highschool have an anime club?My university did
>>84006296No. Just a weeb corner. Had a chess club though. All the weebs and gamers were in it.
>>84006313It would be nice if you were still friends with some of those peopleI am still friends with a few people from my universities anime club or board game club
>>84004487I wanted to, but it had too much math. I was more of a Pokemon TGC kinda guy.
>>84006357I was friends with almost all of them for years after HS but an e girl infiltrated the group. I didn't really like her at the start. The friend I hung out with the most apparently liked her. He forced me to talk with her because for some reason she was really interested in me and made him do it. When I talked with her I kinda liked her so I gave her a chance. She then started telling me that they all talked shit about me behind my back so I just kinda backed off them for a bit. Slowly all drifted away. I was with her through all my 20s. She was always super possessive, a constant liar and a hypocrite. Hated me talking with anyone, specially any girl but always had an excuse for playing or talking with another guy. Moved together. Found out she cheated on me. I left her. One of the old friends randomly sent me a message years later saying that he was sorry about not talking and that he was wrong about me or something like that. I replied but it just kinda got left there. Now I have no friends. She still sends me random messages while I'm sleeping about how she loves me, she fucked up, blah blah blah. And here I am. Browsing 4chins. One of the constants in my life.
>>84006430I think you need to try getting the gang back together. Ask them if they would be able to play chess with them again, for old times sake.If you could get 4 people that would be enough for alternate partners, but you could start with 1:1.And you might actually start off by the girl who you don't reply with, and trying to patch things up with her, just lay down the law with your boundaries and what you want
>>84004487I like yugioh a lot but unfortunately finding girls who play is harder than any other card game. Even MTG probably has more female players. I want a cute fembot gf that I can spend hours building and playing made up formats with. Sigh...
>>84006511It's been over 5 years since I interacted with them. Only one reached out and he never replied. I don't know. I just gotta take it as a chance to make new connections somehow, Best I can get. And I'm not wasting any more time on a cheating whore that gaslit me, stole money from me and made my life very difficult. The only good thing is that her life has kinda fallen apart and her health went to shit.
>>84006538Well I think if that bitch was in the hospital it might actually help your self esteem if you saw her and played chess with her, as long as she knew her boundaries.>Now I have no friends. She still sends me random messages while I'm sleeping about how she loves me, she fucked up, blah blah blah. And here I am. Browsing 4chins. One of the constants in my life. You get the irony right? Like you are complaining how shit your life is and you are simultaneously looking down on her >over 5 yearsYou know what happened 6 years ago? Covid.I think a lot of social connections got severed at that point. So let me continueIf you message them on facebook or text them they have a choice to respond or not after having read your message, if you call them they can decide whether to pick up or not, but they don't know what you want and are kind of obligated to keep talking at least for a little while after picking up the phone. You could be willing to humble yourself saying things like "I am trying to pick up the pieces of my social life after Covid, wold you be interested in playing chess some time over coffee and talking".And then just figure that the people who have the career wife and kids will be too busy to entertain you, but losers who have a job but it's part time and smoke weed and watch anime the rest of the week would be people you could maintain a friendship with
>>84006610My life isn't shit, just solitude outside of family. There's no boundaries with that girl. She was a BPDemon in every sense of the word. After I left her. She got fired multiple times. Got in a car accident. Got in legal troubles with her old job. And now has some kind of disease that's fucking up her body to the point she can barely leave her mom's house. It all stacked up so hard she's messaged me afraid that I cursed her or something lol. Not the first person that's legit had some almost supernatural force fall on them after they fuck me over. I'm not a superstitious person but I'm not complaining. She was always superstitious and loved those dumb ghost videos. I know my old friends aren't married. They were all gamer/weebs. Last I knew of them they were all renting a house together. They weren't really the type to get girls. They'd kinda have girls around in their discords they'd play with but they never really met up with girls. But at this point it's just awkward. The only one I'd maybe reach out to is the one that reached out to me a couple of years ago. But I kinda want to move on forward. Maybe meet a girl that's not a piece of shit.
>>84004487I still have most of my cards, but I actually never knew how to play. I just collected and traded cards like a dumb npc lol. Same thing with Pokemon.
>>84006712>>84006712>I know my old friends aren't married. They were all gamer/weebs. Last I knew of them they were all renting a house together. They weren't really the type to get girls. Well then talk to the guy who hasn't responded in years and offer to move in and take over one of the roomsI'm at the gym and my data kept grabbing banned IPs
I played the Power Of Chaos series a lot, still fire it up sometimes. At one point me and my bro made our own paper cards and had a few games, that was cool. I have no idea what the fuck even goes on in the modern versions.
>>84007660I have so many good memories of playing Yu-Gi-Oh with my brother at the housing complex with our divorced father
>>84007660Most games boil down to "luck of the draw", but the rare ones where you can actually enact some kind of sick strategy... those feel good. Winning cards and building specialist decks can be fun, too.
>>84006712Yeah, no point in trying to beat a dead horse, it sounds like a done deed. A dead horse done deed what got done did. Try and meet new people instead, from time to time.
I played as a kid. Some years later a guy found out that I had played and asked to play against my old deck. We did, and he was losing hard until he played some new kind of card (with an unreadable design) that basically said it's immune to everything. I realized there was no card in my deck that could affect it (and probably no viable option in my entire old collection, either) so I just said gg and packed up. Not before he started complaining that something I'd played was on tournament banlists or whatever. Retard game. I'd say mtg is better, but that shat the bed hard around a decade ago, too. I don't even have netrunner anymore with these trannies adopting it. Fuck tcgs. At least online poker is still around for another couple of years.
>>84005522Didn't exist outside homebrew when i played it. You played standard and you liked it. Plus single copy of a card limitation with the game balance state back then was in fact less fun imo. Commander has only been a an offical thing for 15 years and mtg had been around for nearly 20 prior.
>>84004487Yeah, somewhat recently too just for nostalgia's sake.As a kid I liked the show, though I never understood how the fuck the rules were supposed to work since as you might be well aware, the show makes shit up all the time.Eventually I read the rulebooks and all of that, played with some kids by just using some starter deck, and was decent enough at it.Had a uncle who was into vidya, and he just happened to show me Capsule Monster Colisseum and eventually Tag Force series(I think he never actually watched the show nor played the card game though, so he just learned it from game mechanics alone), I mostly went for the latter and have replayed the first one recently. Very fun, would recommend.Right now? Eh, can't vibe too well with new playstyles despite trying to.But I had some fun back when Trickstars could -200 -200 -200 people indiscriminately. Anime would like me to believe Aoi could really lose with this deck at peak viability...
>>84007119I'm not moving into some sausage fest house in another state with a bunch of dudes I don't know anymore when I own my own home lol.>>84007790Yeah.The deal is indeed done.
>>84004487Yes and collected the cards. The game is a cancer that needs to die as a hard reset wouldn't work at this point. It has been AIDS for at least 14 years at this point.
>>84006296>checks women for open-toed footwear>none foundMoving on
>>84004487synchro era up until eledrags. i was one of the first guys to run maxx C, peaked top 5 YVD using inzectors
>>84004487I have 300 hours in master duel. It's fun but I'm not very good, I have bad memory and too much of the game is getting destroyed or destroying someone. Close games are rare, someone is basically dead after the second turn in my experience. It's hard for me to feel good winning in this game. The few times I've felt excited for a win I was facing a metaslave and the heart of the cards pulled me through. I reached plat once with traptrix and that was nice. I like traptrix alot I have the physical cards as well but I've never played in person, only online.
>>84004487absolutely, i had a really good fiber jar reset deck with 1850 and 1900 atk fourstars in like 2nd or z3rd grade. and by "really good" i mean i was able to beat all my friends lol. shame what happened, i occasioanally forget and buy a pack and i'm greeted with five inscrutable cards with 6+ lines of incredibly tiny text on ALL of them. when tf was the last time they made a normal monster?yugioh really really needs a "classic" reset or sideline, with none of the crazy stuff, nothing past ritual monsters imo or maybe not even those. i feel like theyre missing out on big money bc the pokemom card phrensy is still going strong, but current yugioh new cards are just impossible to grasp if you havent been following the game the whole time. and thats me as an adult who is literally qualified for harvard law by my test scores. if i was 7, i would be like wtf does any of this mean, and worse than now when im just like "dropped" i would feel really bad for not understanding it. yugioh reset nao
Yes. Started playing around Strike of Neos, and stopped playing before Raging Tempest. Went to nationals few times, bought a lot packs and boxes and made good and bad memories.
>>84009860I'm a brain dead junkie and I can figure out modern yugioh I don't really get this whining at all. There are very few cards that are hard to understand and most of them are pendulum cards which no one really likes except pendulum players. Most cards pretty obvious and explicit "when X happens you do Y".
>>84009860They just keep introducing different ways to play, that don't fix the problem. Even the new way where cards get points and there's a point limit doesn't fix shit. It just introduces a different broken way to play. You can play retro formats, but those are solved so if you don't play a meta deck, you'll lose. No different from now, just you lose slower.>>84009894nta, but to me it's more that you can auto-lose without getting to have a turn. Soft locking your opponent out of the game on your first is retarded shit. You either open the opposite perfect counter or you lost. It's a shit game that Konami will continue to powercreep until you literally have 10k attack cards that you can special summon turn one, and it has 10 omni negates built-in with no downsides.
>>84009643lmao THIS is the type of posting i expected in a yugioh thread
>>84005038>edisonnice hahai thought tengu was a little better personally but edison's what took off so i like the idea of getting an edison club togetheri mean all retro and custom formats are coolwish the ppl in this thread were down for thati have a db account i haven't gotten on for a while>>84005867yugioh flea market sounds sick>>84006296>>84006313i went to a chess club that sorta became an anime club cuz the one guy who brought his gf started playing anime on his dvd player and we would watch with them lol
>>84010011Those are somewhat valid compliants about the game and I don't disagree but you say "it's more like" when it all has very little to do with what anon I responded to posted or what I posted.I think the game has been like this longer than it hasn't. It's way faster, easier, and safer now yeah but it was always about not letting your opponent do anything.>You can play retro formats, but those are solved so if you don't play a meta deck, you'll lose. No different from now, just you lose slower.I see this occasionally and it just makes me think people who continously complain about modern yugioh are just nostalgiafags thinking about their schoolyard yugioh games and that was never yugioh. It just sounds like people who say things like that want some silly full custom format, which they could play if they had friends. A lot of people share these complaints, I can't imagine it's hard to find one person to reenact your 2.5 atk beatstick being unbreakable with.Konami knows what to do, they make cards that have restrictions, sometimes really bad restrictions that ruin the card (and fail to help the archetype the card was printed for), but they still release cards that have zero restrictions because they are retarded and greedy.
>>84006430>>84006712wow this is insane you could write a whole scott pilgrim style anthology with all this material
>>84007660yo making ur own cards is where it's atsometimes i think that there's enough talent in here for us to make our own card gamei actually have some contacts in the PNW who are doing stuff like that and need playtesting alsobut yeah idk we'd need to have a space and collab and trade ideas online
>>84009860>>84009862>>84010011>>84010137look there are lots of yugioh sux vids even from top players and i get itthere's also at the core a really awesome game there though deep down with all of the interaction, chain links, variable tactics/strategy and how the sky's the limit in terms of deck potential 'there's a yugioh card for everything'but the thing is at the end of the day you really thrive on making your own formats and rules with your own groups and having fun together and that's still VERY possible if you open your mind up even some recent decks aren't that bad but yeah powercreep is def an issue(i would say it's even more of an issue in pokemon tho and a cool thing about yugioh is you can still use really old cards like monster reborn lol)
I actually think modern Yugioh has occasionally some really fun and good formats. It's just that many modern meta decks have no real identity. They are just bog standard midrange decks who have a bunch of starters to end on a board with a bunch of generic interruptions (can't even call them boss monsters anymore since traditional tower-like boss monsters got powercrept into irrelevancy) with maybe one single archetype specific interruption. Like even an annoying stun deck is preferable because at least it's somewhat unique compared to midrange slop.
>>84010128>wish the ppl in this thread were down for thatComplaining about modern yugioh is more fun than playing retro yugioh so I don't think anyone will be down for that.>>84010189I've never played pokemon tcg and I think yugioh is still quite fun, I've never played older formats because I don't get to use the cards I like.
>>84010272>Complaining about modern yugioh is more fun than playing retro yugiohbeg to differ lolat a certain point you're complaints become a bit irrelevant as for example tear/kash format and snake-eyes are way different than now where i don't even keep up with it alllol i feel ya thoit's also always fun just to 'cook' with shit makes u feel like an artist>I think yugioh is still quite funi mean that's fair haha seems like their marketing worked on youalthough these comments are almost contradictory but whatever
>>84010155Wow thread still up. How is my life scott pilgrimesque in any way. Makes me sound like more of a loser than I am.
>>84010189i think its a little bold to call a game with thousands of cards even cutting it off at rituals "solved" but im not realjly an expert. i sort of think that card games kind of just dont work in the modern era where everyone knows to look stuff up online and everyone can just paypig for the meta cards off of ebay. its a shame really but people cant help themselves. the only paths forward are artificial digital scarcity (which means no trading) or fixed-set games like netrunner, and neither of these makes a TCG because theres no trading. so...idk. just sucky. money killed it.
>>84004487Yeah. Tried getting back into it a year or two ago only to find out Konami is hellbent on making the game as unfun as they possibly can.
>>84010466That was sarcasm aimed that complainers who don't play the game.I play the game and enjoy it as I've said multiple times ITT including the post you are responding to so I'm not sure what you are going on about. I know it's an anonymous image board but still. Have a good day, you can stay here with the complainers and normalfag blogposters I'm going to play some master duel.
>>84010272Witchcrafter hentai was the last thing id thought id see today
>>84008247Yeah I guess that would be a step backwards.I hope you have a chance to play chess again that's all I will say
>>84010473Your life reminds me of Scott Pilgrim. That bitch had so many evil exs
>>84004487I watched the show and collected counterfeit cards but I never "played" the game physically on a tabletop. The most I played in videogames were 'Forbidden Memories' and 'Worldwide Edition: Stairway To The Destined Duel'. Just mentioning them is giving me that itch to go and pirate them now.
>>84012143The later video games are actually challenging as they used real decks and not just some weird pile. I don't remember which game it was, but the one where you could build a 99% perfect version of Bloo-d was amazing for that alone.
I spent so much time playing Eternal Duelist Soul back in the day
>>84012164I enjoyed Worldwide a lot because of how much it emulated the game at that point, with card effects, summons, the broken strats (Fuck you, Kaiba and Mecha-Stein) and more. I never got into latter rules/mechanics but the DS games looked interesting. Maybe one day I'll give them a try.
Yes and I cosplay as Judai Yuki.I only play Heroes too
>>84012170try duelists of the roses redux 2very, very different game, pretty fun though, amazing soundtrack too, and it's finally balanced
yes fucking love old school yugioh formats. i have put together a custom mod for legacy of the duelist pc game that replaces the pendulum campaign with a series of GOAT format deck challanges. its neat.i also routinely play 7 trial to glory on gba, thats my fav real rules handheld game, otherwise every few years i will pull out dark duel stories and cheese the shit out of that with the custom card mechanic combined with the grandpa code
>>84013502That sounds cool you should upload it onlineI like romhacks and mods
>>84004487I only played yugioh 1. Yugioh 2 is fucking garbage. Sorry I don't want to watch my opponent play solitaire and set up an unbreakable board on turn 1 unless i am also playing the meta or drew one of my 1 off hand traps. IT became so bad I switched to magic, I am trying to get used to the new game but I prefer when it wasn't a 2 turn game.Sure there was meta back then aswell but games lasted longer than 2 turns.I played shaddoll when the starter deck came out but I already know it's power crept to be useless. and good graveyard card that supports it will automatically be more useful in 100 other decks since the graveyard is your second hand now.
>>84007975i started out playing casual with whatever 60 card deck you got whip upedh just ended up being the most fun as we grew up
>>84004487I only played it for a bit. But I think Mokey Mokey is really cute thoughever.
>>84006514why the fuck would you want to play with a girl
