>>84020117I've bought my last two computers from Microcenter. Powerspec brand. They're alright and use components from good brands. Only downside with those is that you have to use their OEM bios instead of one directly from the motherboard's manufacturer if you're doing bios updates, because the windows license is tied to it. Not a huge deal but they may not be as up to date as the manufacturer's. If something's wrong with it the pc though they have a 15 day return/exchange policy and a one year warranty, plus you can buy extended warranties. I personally wouldn't trust just some guy or company on the internet because returning it would be more difficult. But this all hinges on you having a Microcenter nearby. Hell, even if you have to drive a few hours it's worth it to save hundreds of dollars.

If there is too much thermal paste and it's the electrically conductive kind of thermal paste your mobo and CPU may short-circuit and get fried.

Frozen screen, messed up audio, fans that make fighter jet noises. You'll have to manually turn off the PC and no, it shouldn't get damaged from a stress test.

Anyway, as far as I know thermal protection mode will make so that while the PC is still "on but frozen", the fans will keep spinning at high speed specifically for making so that the components quickly cool down and don't get damaged.
