I've lived in a few different countries, and I have to say - when I was there at least, things have changed a lot in the last few years - slightly rural towns in the north of the UK are some of the comfiest places I've ever been.

Find a place with a Cathedral (a technical city) and a population of 30,000-100,000 and try living there for a few years.
- The UK is small enough that everything is still just an hour or two drive away
- You don't HAVE to turn on the TV or radio, ever
- Away from bigger cities, the UK is still mostly high trust and overwhelmingly white.

I still think vaguely think about moving back to those small towns every now and then.

I know it sounds vapid and selfish, but to me, it's just a very depressing place to live. I am from an especially awful area, but even when going into nicer areas, there's still a combination of factors and I can't afford to move to them anyway. That sounds like a good start, I think you're downplaying it a bit. Granted I know little about animation but I think if you've got experience with animating movement, once you're better at drawing people and animals making something like old anime would be a lot easier.

I will once again repeat that I'm a bit of a special case. There was a reason I was paid top 0.45% salary in toronto (I am not the median worker), and the same applies in stockholm. But a fast food worker here can afford to live in a 1br apartment and even save enough to eventually buy a small apartment, and move up as equity builds. In Canada I was never allowed to get a mortgage, I was told I had to not only earn that much but also stay in the same job a bazillion years (I had a 880 credit score) and even then I would have been barely staying afloat with the amount they were requesting.
Earning more is profession specific, yes. Basically all low-skill jobs earn WAAAAY more in sweden, and some high-skill professions but not all (like mine) earn a LOT more as well. Other professions are a mixed bag. I believe doctors earn quite a bit less in general for example.

My brother left Canada for the US (lives in PA now) about 10 years before I was in a position to run away, too. By the time I was ready, US companies no longer accepted TN status and only wanted H1B for some reason. My brother has a house and a high paid job, and is on his way to a green card. He thinks life quality is also much higher than in Canada and never had any thought of coming back. Read Orwell's essay "England Your England". As a foreigner living in this shithole, Englishness is something I think about a lot because the feeling of being foreign and out of place has basically defined my life. I think the fundamental issue is what Orwell says about English people not really adopting world views or ideologies which was probably a very quaint aspect of Britishness back in those days. After ~100 years of spiritual, moral and intellectual decline, however, I believe that it is the single biggest factor consigning this island into the dustbin of history. I've seen a little of other countries, and as far as I can tell in Western Europe at least (and even Eastern Europe, from what I've inferred by meeting people from there) is that Britain is almost uniquely tawdry, unglamorous, slovenly, lazy, ugly and run-down. It makes me so upset, I can barely go outside any more without feeling depressed and out-of-touch. I see the type of houses people my age are buying and they are so tiny, cramped and unhomely - I compare this to the type of houses/apartment people have on the continent and they are like crack dens in comparison. People are genuinely working 50 years to pay a quarter of a million pounds or more for these cramped, often damp, often noisy little squats, often only to find another new estate of equally foul homes being erected in a neighbouring field.

The girl I knew from Eastern Europe grew up in poverty pretty much, or at least in a family where money was far tighter than in any other family I know, and yet she came here and was so disappointed that people neglected themselves (particularly women, whose obesity and general lack of self-care was abhorrent to her) and that culture was so lax here that children were coddled and their rudeness tolerated, that people would binge-drink and then gorge on fast food and sit on the ground etc. We were very different people, but I admire her (and the slavic culture she came from; her female friends were similar to her) for having such high standards and expectations. It was sad to hear someone from such a poor country express her disillusionment with Britain, which I guess she hoped would resemble Harry Potter or some other image of the country implied by movies etc she had seen. I've watched videos of her small home city, and though it's poor there is no littering, the people are dressed respectfully, and if that city was transplanted to Britain I've no doubt people would flock to live there.

I really don't know what will turn things around, or whether this is a past version of Britain that would be worth emulating or treating as an example of when things went right. I fear that the class divide, the industrial era architecture in poorer areas, the weather, the complete abandonment of any taboo or social shaming, has pretty much condemned us to inevitable decline.

I get that my proposal of wanting to date a foreign man to leave comes off as self-serving and entitled but unless I don't see any sort of future here. I don't want to hate my own people but being associated with this ugliness both in the land and the people really gets me down and by now I just want to distance myself from Englishness as much as possible. I sense that some kind of national revival is stirring in the minds of a lot of people at the moment, the overthrowing of the two party system pretty much reflects that. But really, I feel that unless there is some kind of radical large-scale revival, and a massive of investment of energy and enthusiasm of British people down to a local level to sort things out, then really I don't blame people for wanting to jump ship. It's probably not worth settling for crumbs and a little corner to grumble away in. I'm not sure those countries would be much of an improvement overall, especially Anglo countries. Maybe Switzerland if you can afford it or Scandinavian countries? But it's not like Scandinavian countries don't have their social problems, and the climate might be something to think about too. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for specifically though? Roads and public transport in the Netherlands are great compared to the UK, but they have a housing crisis and their healthcare sounds terrible according to a relative of mine.

I've thought about them and have a little bit of money saved up (though not much). Every country has its pros and cons, but I have trouble thinking that any conditions that are worse than the UK will outweigh the benefits.

True, I suppose it's just a matter of if that welcoming attitude would extend to living there. Glad people accepted you in the UK though. Despite tensions right now I would hope that if someone genuinely respected the customs and worked they would be treated with respect.
