Right? There's a travel advisory right now saying to stay off roads unless absolutely necessary. At the very least they're not giving out attendance points. Given I'm still on probation as a new-hire it has me irrationally anxious though

> im doing ok today. tired. sick. i skipped gym and it made me sad
Aw :(

Hope you get well soon femanon

>>
>>84154769
It is nice but I wish they paid me more. I have union benefits, though. A retirement plan and 12 days of paid vacation time accrue every year. Plus another 12 for medical stuff. I just tell my boss and I get paid for going to the dentist on the clock.

Oh damn those are some nice benefits. I don't think I get paid for going to appointments but I do get to work 4-days a week and still make full-time pay.
>>
>>84154817
I accrue a half a day of vacation time and half a day of medical leave every pay period. I get paid semi-monthly. I make 18.25 an hour. City workers make 22, but I dont feel like transferring over.

Not bi-weekly? How does that work?
>>

Bi-weekly is twice a week. Semi-monthly is every two weeks
>>
>>84154858
Damn who tf did I learn it from that bi-weekly means every 2 weeks then? lmao
>>
>>84154866
I thought the same. Anyway, what are you up to?

>>

dude DougDoug is so good
are you redwyn?
It's from danganronpa 2
>>
>>84154883
Working. I wish it would stay warm instead of this topsy turvy weather. This frost might kill the buds on my cherry tree
>>

Yep

> It's from danganronpa 2
Damn, maybe it's time I go back and replay 2 then :O

I haven't played Danganronpa since highschool, I had a PSP emulator on my laptop

>>84154890
Hope work goes well you and your cherry tree's buds survive. It would be nice if the weather could just decide to stay decent and not be as unpredictable as it has been

What kind of cherry tree is it btw? Is it one of the species with pink leaves or does it look more like a normal tree?
>>

DougDoug is amazing, I met him once, showed him my photos
Redwyn sounds familiar too actually
I can't wait for Danganronpa 2x2, I'm thinking Mahiru will make it to the end

Japanese cherry. Cultivar: Kanzan/Sekiyama. It is around 40 years old. My dad kept it pruned so it has lived past its typical lifespan so far. It has the double blossoms that each have 40 or so petals.

How many people here do I know? wtf

Are we in a discord server or something? From Picarto? Idk where else you would have seen my username

>>84154954
Wait how long do they normally live? That seems crazy short for a tree
>>
>>84154976
Usually to 25. 50 is considered an outlier with exceptional care. The process of creating the cultivar severely increased its susceptibility to disease. Wild Japanese cherries are more long-lived. One made it to 1000

Ohhhh interesting. I did not know that, is it common for creating cultivar to do this? Or just an unfortunate result for Kanzan/Sekiyama trees?

Other varieties like the Yoshino make it to 40. I think wildcherry trees can live to 80-100 under ideal conditions. Kanzan are th prettiest, but shortest-lived. Fruit trees do tend to need pruning to fight off disease. Their wood and bark arent as strong as oak or hickory. Tougher trees tend to be longer-lived. You can dent the cherry bark with a fingernail.

Oh damn, they really are fragile then

Is it possible to do that splicing thing where you take cuttings of a cherry and transplant them to an oak? I wonder what that would look like
>>
>>84155013
Did I?
okay San, whatever you say
>>
>>84155013
I know that most prunus varieties can be spliced. Cherry/plum grafts are common. Our tree does have some decay in the middle of the trunk so it will die, but it had been like that for a decade and might last another 10 years with proper care.
>>
>>84155020
Interesting

It'd be cool if your cherry tree does manage to live that extra 10 years
>>
>>84155043
I hope so. I draw and paint pictures of it every spring. Will hose it down tonight. For some reason, icing it prevents frost damage. Cold air is worse than cold water. They do that with orange trees in Florida.

Apparently when water freezes it releases heat, which can then transfer into the bark. No idea how that even works but that's what they say

Maybe it means the plant can absorb the heat of the water before it freezes? idk the wording gets weird depending on what you look at
>>
>>84155215
The energy Is released due to crystallization. But water also is a decent insulator, so ice encased around a bus keeps the air from causing crystals to form inside the plant
