Is computer science going to be a dogshit degree for the next 5+ years? Everytime there's a mass layoff, redditors are quick to say it's not due to AI and that it's solely due to oversaturation and offshoring. Well I'm sure we had those issues 10 years ago and the tech market was still strong for Americans, the only difference now is the existence of AI.I'm starting to think maybe redditors are just coping and every influencer that says "AI won't replace SWEs" is just another grifter full of shit. AI won't completely replace all SWEs but it will change the field that only the top 10% of CS graduates make it while the rest will have a lifetime career at McDonald's. I hope I'm wrong but I'm willing to accept reality unlike the copers.
>>84157130Computer Science is still a great degree if it's something you're naturally inclined to do. But if you're just forcing yourself because you think it's a good career it may not be the best option anymore.Would you program for fun if you didn't need money?
>>84157130Salaries are mathematically determined by supply and demand, and they're still high. The layoffs and awful market is a thing that there are always people claiming, you say the tech market was strong, but people were also saying it was bad back then.AI is very far from being able to one shot entire commercial apps, and if it can't one shot an app, it can't do shit, because it means it doesn't have the ability to handle a large codebase, and will at best be similar to auto complete. This is my honest take as a dev for many years now doing actual commercial apps very similar from what anyone vibe coding does, I have a cs degree, and I've been keeping up to date on how current AI works. I am not a slop influencer.
>>84157398I also work as a dev and AI is fucking fantastic autocomplete and I feel a lot less stressed at work because of it. But it's not about to take everyone's jobs.
>>84157130>everyone rushes to do the same thing because everyone said its le best thing>suddenly mass surplus of retards trying to get the same finite positions>confusion as the new abundance causes a race to the bottom, where turd worlders have prescience since they will take bottom dollar to send home where its worth moreThis always vexed me, when a gold mine is discovered do something else than try to dig at that single gold mine. Let the guppies tear themselves apart for peanuts
>>84157398>doing actual commercial apps very similar from what anyone vibe coding doesi meant to say very different kekvibe coders do simple as fuck bugged shit any kid who saw a coding tutorial could do in a day anyway, and they think they're doing something kek>>84157130by the way>offshoringthere's something everyone with a brain in this field knows but nobody can say out loud, and its that lesser races do not really have the cognitive ability to code, and if they did, ALL the jobs would be outsourced. NOBODY would be making six figures as a dev, it wouldn't make sense.
>>84157422I believe its more like:>The education system has always taught everything by memorization and repetition. Even maths are reduced to a series of predetermined steps to solve each type of problem.>There's one niche that can't be learned that way.>There's a shortage of people who can do that, which corporations don't like because it means a high wage. So they come up with a huge trend of learning to do it with free tutorials.>Most people still can't.>Those people who can't do it claim the market is awful.>People who can are still paid 6 figures out of uni.
I graduated from an IT course at the end of December and had my first interview today. I'm confident I'm not going to be the one chosen out of the 100 other applicants. The entry level apocalypse is real.
My friend who is a programmer said not too long ago they're barely hiring any new programmers since places are using AI's to build some of the inhouse apps they need, and most of the programming is them filling in the gaps that AI is not abke to do and fixing errors. Even just five years ago, they had to do everything from scratch except for the common libraries they made and use on a regukar basis. The IT dept even set up severval AI servers for them and other workers to use. The friend had to take several classes on AI to keep his job. The programmers they are hiring are tge ones with a strong AI background.Just of note, the friend is 43 and has been there since he waa 32.I lol at the "lrn2/code" fucks. Almost all of them didn't keep up and now are working a slave job at a fastfiod resturant. Way to go. Now you oversaturated the field.
>>84157531It can be hard, you really have to go through a humiliation ritual jfl. Open source projects helped me back in my time (in 2015) and I got my first job after 2 months of interviewing.
>>84157624>they're barely hiring any new programmers since places are using AI'swhat a retard. i guess there's some jobs out there where they will call anything a "programmer" jfl
>>84157130No its a horrible degree full street shitters. women, and retarded dudes. Run, degrees aren't worth the money..
>>84157130Not really, but it will be like all the other degrees where you either learn to be well connected or end up in an unrelated dogshit job
