yeah ss is fine if you're an absolute beginner, but ngl I started bodybuilding in earnest during covid doing a bodyweight routine from fucking reddit and genuinely got surprisingly far doing just that. I think calisthenics are the absolute best route for someone staring at absolute zero, mostly because you can get all the equipment you need for less than 100 bucks on fb and that'll remove a lot of the early resistance and excuses of going to a gym. there's also an added benefit that weightlifting is generally much easier than more advanced calisthenics, so if you get far enough transitioning to the gym will feel like ez mode in comparison. when you're getting newbie gains consistency is really the only thing that matters, you can probably do pretty much any routine tbqh. I usually say do bodyweight to build up your discipline and then switch to gym when you need to start doing cirque du soleil shit to get a decent workout in. also calisthenics are /aesthetic/ af and weighted calisthenics are GOATed. I still do em now sprinkled in a five or six day split.

If you're set on gym right away I did ss at some point in the 2010s and I think it's good for getting acclimated with the basics and learning the lifts, but otherwise I think it's not really amazing as an actual routine.
imo a really common problem with a lot of the beginner three day full body routines is they have you hitting squats 3x a week. if you're eating that's a fast track to looking like latina mewtwo pretty quickly. I'd recommend a 3 day where you maybe hit squats 2x/week and deadlifts 1x for your legs, with more variety for upper body like at least some dips, pulldowns, lateral raises, and rows in addition to the bench and ohp.

If you want simplicity you could get by with a routine that's identical on all three days, it just wouldn't be as efficient in terms of time spent in the gym, morale, and recovery. Doing all that in the same day, I'd really only recommend hitting two sets of each and dropping deadlifts down to one set per session and maybe just hitting 3x OHP 1x/week, but that's still pretty inefficient cause you have to setup for 4-5 different exercises every day, and your body is only really healing on weekends. Rest is where growth happens. Lol @ hitting OHP 3x/week tho that's a really good way to get injured. Your shoulders and back were probably fucked.

As someone who used to do insanely stacked full body routines 3x a week you CAN do that early on, and you will get results, but you'll still have to rotate and will inevitably end up spending like 3+ hours in the gym each day. The extra rest days won't really matter because your entire body will almost always be fatigued as fuck, and your sessions will get longer because you'll want to rest more between sets. In that era it was so easy to fall off the horse and lose progress, because every session felt daunting af. I constantly felt like I'd been hit by a truck and if I didn't sleep or eat right for a single day, my next workout would be absolutely fucked. Then getting back on the horse is extra difficult, because you know you're about to kill yourself for several hours. If you stick with it, it makes you a freak - but in a neurotic way, not in a good way.

IMO it's best to keep workouts quick and efficient early on, then graduate to a four day split sooner rather than later. Spreading the workload is almost always better unless you have scheduling issues. Bodybuilding doesn't actually need to be that grueling, but you do gotta be smart about it as it's honestly mostly a mental game. The process itself is fairly straightforward once you have the basic info desu.
