Nowhere near as insane as what they make the baby doctors, do but it's to teach you the mindset. Break the mind down so you just see patients as a set of symptoms and correlate that with numbers and act without thinking or caring. Compassion fatigue is a feature not a bug. They want to get people there as quickly as possible. Makes you more efficient or something. No time to think when they start crashing, you want muscle memory to take over and brain to go into flowchart mode. Nurses can't prescribe or compound medicine, but in acls you're allowed to push epi or mix up a bag of levo before the doctor gets there. Doctor really doesn't do anything but say shock/no shock, intubate, or put in a line. It's kind of impressive to watch how efficient things run with four to seven people in a, tiny room and usually another one or two standing outside of the room ready to grab a kit or set something up.
