https://www.nasa.gov/live/Artemis II reaches the moon today.
>>84305012Why won't they land?
>>84305026This is a test to make sure we can still get to the moon and back safely Would be kind of dumb to go to the moon and realize we can't get back
>>84305036>This is a test to make sure we can still get to the moon and back safelyhaven't we gotten to the moon safely already? wtf is this test then
>>84305306Just because you did something 5 years ago doesn't mean you could do it right this minute
>>84305026that'll be artemis III
>>84305316>Just because you did something 5 years ago doesn't mean you could do it right this minuteyes, it would. i just follow the instructions again. why are they doing this test run instead of just saving resources to land on the moon again
>>84305340If you ran a 10km 5 years ago and have never exercised a day in the time in-between do you think you could run aj entire 10km with no issues
>>84305348how did the first astronauts train for it then? are these astronauts the ones that will be going to the moon?
>>84305306>haven't we gotten to the moon safely already? wtf is this test thenLast time a human walked on the moon was 53 years, and the short answer is that they aren't using the same system as before. Entire generations of engineers and astronauts have changed out in that time, and manufacturing, software, and procedures are totally different.
>>84305375By preparing for the environment and running simulations? I don't really understand your question. This is a simulation for future missions.
>>84305340Dude. The last time we landed on the moon was 53 years ago. Obviously if the world revolved around purely logical and scientific efficiency we would just land again (if the goal was to just dick around and not do anything new) but NASA and everything it does is working within political realities. You can't expect NASA to take $100 billion dollars in tax payer money for the Artemis programs to not reassure the world that we can in fact send people beyond the ISS and back without any disasters. And anyway, while we can "land back to the moon," we want to test our current modern technologies and see if they can withstand and preform well in the many more trips to come. There's no use in going to the moon just for the fun of it using old technologies.>>84305012This is going to be so peak. I drove down to Florida to watch the rocket launch. Space is awesome. I can't wait for the photos they're going to take.
>>84305392>By preparing for the environment and running simulations? I don't really understand your question. This is a simulation for future missions.what is the point of this test run if we know how to get to the moon and land? training for it by going to orbit again and collecting data doesn't make sense. we have sent rovers and landed before. we know how to train astronauts before sending them up there for orbit.
>>84305012While I do love space, and the idea of space colonization, couldn't that money be used on us?
>>84305415The total program is 90 billionThe Iran war that has been going on so far has cost around 40 billion dollars so far
>>84305422Maybe I'm jaded, but the fact that im not going to experience retirement is making me not care as much about it
>>84305415No price is too much to push the limits of human curiosity and ingenuity. And anyways, most modern technologies that we use today come from origins that didn't seem to have any benefit to the average person before being converted to civilian use. I don't doubt that this will be repeated with space colonization.
>>84305415Most money is already used on us, and look at now.
>>84305324artemis 4 now, 3 will be low earth orbit tests of the landers
>>84305434Valid but taking your frustration out on Nasa when trump is asking to give the military industrial complex another 500 billion dollars to give their CEOs more money when our infrastructure is Baghdad post 2003 tier is misdirected anger
>>84305459I could just want them to stop dumping shit into that all in one package to give me better healthcare, roads, and non retarded police forces
>>84305415just to give one exampletechniques developed to improve images taken by the Apollo missions helped advance X-ray and CT scan imaging advancements in one scientific or technological field don't stay contained in just that field, but midwits can't comprehend this
>>84305475>give me better healthcare, roads, and non retarded police forcesUnfortunately white America wants Black people locked up and the ten trans players in women NCAA banned more
>>84305478Ok but that doesn't exactly make rent cheaper does it
>>84305495exactly what i was saying, if everyone thought like this we would still be living in caves banging rocks together not to mention NASA is not even remotely the reason you can't afford rent or groceries
FAKE Kubrick dies ages ago
>>84305495literally we should have Communism instead of Capitalism anyways this shit is all retarded
>>84305415If the government gives people free shit it all goes to boomers, single moms, Basketball Americans, illegals and Jews anyways so who cares. NASA is one of the few things the government funds that isn't complete bullshit.
