That happened to me once, I was in an /r9k/ Skype group a decade ago. One of the founders died after OD'ing on alcohol and benzos and his brother came to the group to let us know he passed. Posted his online obituary with his real name (yes we knew each others' names)

Yeah. Once I realised he wasn't coming back, I half-jokingly hosted a wake for him in Animal Crossing with his other internet friends. The attendees drew some very good pictures in his honour.
