Do you fall victim to Solomon's paradox?
>>84351875i went through all of university not knowing that professors are there to mostly give you life advice
>>84351875>Think of mistakes as learning experiences>You make nothing but mistakes
>>84351875What would "fall victim of the paradox" entail here, exactly?I believe that people can give reasonable advice even when somehow they are not able to apply it to themselves, and I've given such advice myself as well. How do I explain it? Simply put, being able to perfectly abstract a problem in your mind, and properly solve it, does not imply concrete experience. It also does not imply much self-confidence when it comes to practical application, when somebody ends up regretting not listening to their own advice.

I don't think it's hypocritical to give people cautionary advice based on your own mistakes most likely the person giving the advice in tgis scenario is beyond saving anyway
>>84351947Sure, but I don't understand what does he mean with falling victim of the paradox. It's not something I can't explain, it's not something that I don't conceive as really happening, idk.
>>84351875In a way. Because I know regret, and I know illness, I can offer partial wisdom that I either fail to effectively apply under my current circumstances, or cannot at this late point in time. The wisdom is partial not by cause of me not applying it to myself, but in my failure to finalize it and fully go beyond my circumstances, no matter what they may be. It's incomplete because my journey is incomplete.
>>84351875No, not anymore. I no longer think I have any understanding of what's going on in another person's life, nor do I try to interfere in them living that life. You will always find that, in some way whether small or large, that you are missing some piece of the picture and the version you are being given is augmented in some way, perhaps due to the cognitive bias of others or because the person who is asking for advice simply does not know. Giving advice, however, is not something that should be done. You deprive the person you speak to of deeper level thought, of self-awareness and further consideration. And worst of all, you deprive them of suffering, the greatest teacher we have.
>>84351875Is that what Fat Albert has?
>>84351875Most certainly.I think most people do considering the advice that you're giving out to others may contain risks that you don't trust yourself to take and possibly suffer the consequences.
>>84352512wholesome family still together slop
>>84351875Nah, this is a midwit thing, I went much further and factually justified all of fails and procrastination. >I don't do this, because list of reasons and facts.Checkmate.
>>84352522So do you do it twice as hard?
>>84353000I don't understand the question. I'm performing an analysis and I'm generally against giving advice, esp to random people.
>>84351875Yes, this applies to me more than anything else that has ever been posted in this board, and every single day is a torture because I am wholly incapable of fixing my life despite knowing exactly what to do.
>>84352522>this is for midwits>but here's how I come up with excuses and copsAnon, you might actually be retarded.
>>84353048mommy said this is what makes me unique
>>84351875Having dedicated names for shit is retarded. Just say "hypocrite" or "smart hypocrite". 'Knowing' more words doesn't make you smart
>>84351945Here's an example>alcoholic man tells child>"Don't drink alcohol">as he stakes another shot of vodka
>>84351875The Bible has already answered this question. Because there is nothing new under the sun>Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye >but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?>Or how can you say to your brother>Let me take the speck out of your eye>when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye>and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eyeMathew 7
