Everyone just gawks at me when I tell them I almost reached reading fluency in Japanese in only 4 months. Even japanese people themselves are dumbfounded, and japanese girls call me a monster for being this fast. Maybe they understand the real reason why I'm pushing myself so hard is none other than despair. 100 words a day is nothing to me now.

I think you should go to Japan ASAP

Please explain how you reached that fluency over time. The specific methods.

so are you going to utilize your japanese language skills for something actually useful like reading prose and poetry or just playing shitty vns and going on dating apps like everyone else?

I have a vocab file where I mine every single new word I find. I kept reading kanji inside words and repeated them until they stuck, then used Anki to remind myself of the words I need to revise. I have another text file where I put the words I need to review and then go through them by translating them from english to japanese. I let AI handle the deck creation and the reverse translation list. Of course you won't be able to memorize all the words but I'd say 90% of them stay in my head. When I get to 10k I will make an entire list of words to revise again since Anki keeps burying some of them. It should take me a week or less knowing that these words just need a little nudge to stick.

"Real" literature is a different beast, and I don't really care about poetry.
