Western Canon is overrated, too much literature and history that are only of value so you can go 'I got the reference yay I'm cultured'.The dying and lost arts are better. Reading is good stuff. But at least this anon's advice is not to fall for the hype that all of the Western canon books are good just because people say they are. For example, you might really enjoy The Odyssey but have absolutely zero interest in Moby Dick. Fuck Moby Dick. I bailed on that shit, and will never attempt to read it again. And it's a great way to check on whether people actually enjoy literature or just go along with it. I know plenty of men who actually read actual books. Like physical books, not just ebooks. There's studies showing how much reading physical copies actually stimulates the brain not just because of reading, but actually physically turning the pages and taking in the paper smell (even if it is moldy.)
