Konata is basically a Japanese equivalent of the kind of person who used 4chan around 2007, which explains why the show resonated so strongly with the userbase here. This is why a lot of people who aren't really into anime hear of or watch LS and don't really get it; the show is a comedic meta-commentary on otakus and the kind of person who browsed 2ch in the mid 2000s. Its humour and story are based around an enormous amount of references to other anime and aspects of otaku culture, and if you aren't already familiar with these things you'll probably miss said references and just see a show about little girls
