"single tax" is a real economic phenomenon, almost everything is priced for couples and not single people. it's outdated, because statistically there are far fewer couples than ever, but it's still happening. so right now, you are by default doing this. you subsidize corporations, landlords, and basically anyone you pay money to because they're counting on 2 people splitting the bill. funny enough, actual government taxes are one of the few remaining places that *doesn't* actively fuck you over in the same way, because you can file as single and get the most back at the end of the year, you are, however, taxed more upfront (this makes zero sense).
