I'm convinced that people who invent shit are aliens. I was just thinking about how a debit card even works and I can't even wrap my head around it even a little bit. You mean there's information in the little strip? How the fuck..? Insane, they gotta be aliens coming up w this shit man
missiles and computersno one can think of the tiny components in pcsthere is like a million parts that make a pc work
>>84439670Its just electricity magnetism and atomsThink about this There's no oxygen in space right? But the building blocks of all materials is hydrogen which is abundant in spaceWhen you combine multiple hydrogen atoms it forms a new element helium etc eventually oxygen is created Everything is just atoms So the machine reads the unique magnetic signature given off by the card
Such are the blessings of the machine God.Begin the canticle of maintenance.
It's so humbling. What other humans have come up with and we take for granted is truly unfathomable.
a debit card is like 1500 different inventions mashed together.Like 99% of inventions are relatively simple it's just that everyone else was stupid at the time so they look ingenious in hindsight. Like you can understand how most things work simply by expanding on them even just a little bit, the inventors were just the first to do it.Aside from like math related inventions, imagine being the guy to invent calculus or trigonometry fuck no.
>>84439706yeah.do you ever watch that guy primitive technology?he's been trying to make iron tools from natural materials only for literal yearsand still hasnt figured out how to do it knowing the general principles. we're built on top of a nested stack of cards. there's actually a really cool video essay about thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsEVpHDjYn4
>>84439717Was math invented or discovered?
>>84439717Calculus is just wondering the rate things change
>>84439722That video is too scary mane
>>84439726You can't invent something that exists
>>84439732you're such a scardey cat lol
>>84439734But everything that was "invented" was made with things that already existed, the things were just altered and put together.
>>84439726can it philosopheranon I dont really care I just hate mathematics with a passion, that and that question means literally nothing, absolute nothingburger.>>84439729Yeah to an extent that too, everything we know is just taking something thought to be basic and running with it, its incredible what we can come up with from such little effort.
>>84439744Exactly nothing is invented it's an ever present thing You didn't invent air
>>84439726>Was math invented or discovered?im becoming a mathemetician and increasingly thinking that it's invented, which sounds really weird.
>>84439734Math is a language so yes it was created.
>>84439754Was oxygen invented by you because you come up with how it works
>>84439755math is a system though, and oxygen is not. it appears as though there was a time where earth existed but it did not have math.
>>84439759Its just going to end in a semantics debate
>>84439770well i think the question really is do you believe there is a fundamental substrate of reality that has a one to one correspondence to the system of math. That the properties that align with the principles of math contain the ideal of math itself.
>>84439726We invented the mathematical language cemented on patterns that we discovered from our reality...but can't be justified by themselves. At least that's my opinion having skimmed through articles about the Godel's proof for incompleteness in math a long time ago
>>84439755The english word for Tiger, "Tiger" was formalized and created despite the fact Tigers have always existed. Brainlet take.
>>84439800Math can only exist from things observed outside ones own self therefore math is an external thing completely separate from the mind
>>84439815Math also exists as a systematic set of axioms and principles that do not need to be modeled by reality.
>>84439812We aren't talking about nomenclature midwit we are talking about objective and abstract things Math which is the study of the way things exist through patterns can't be invented because it's something that comes from observation ie external stimuli
>>84439670To be fair, people rarely ever invent entire complex systems all by themselves. The end product is typically the aggregate result of many people's collective knowledge coming together. Debit cards weren't just randomly invented in their current form by one guy who just thought extra hard one day. Steve Jobs didn't sit there and develop the iPhone with some glue and pliers. All he did was run the company and the products that came out of it were the result of collaborations between countless people.
>>84439670That's good, it means you keep a sense of wonder. Turn it into curiosity and learn how that stuff works.
